Notice to new members intending to register - from January 9th 2012

Hi Everyone,

My friend was just moved to Lawton Correctional Facility - serving a 13yr sentence (non violent). I know nothing about the prison system. It this a "decent" place? Will he be treated well? I'm so worried about him.

Wow, dogmom, I don't want to freak you out. My dear friend is also at LCF and he told me that there are no worse prisons in America... some equal to, but none worse. It's a private prison run by GEO (formerly Wackenhunt) and from what my friend tells me the staff are uncaring, unkind and unprofessional. However, on a good note, he has made it in there over two years without too many problems, none among other prisoners. Good luck and keep writing your friend.

Thanks for the info, Precious. This breaks my heart...but good to know your friend is making it. I know prison is not supposed to be fun, but does the staff have to make a horrible experience even worse?? I will keep writing to him and do everything I can to make sure he knows he's loved. I sent him a letter when he was in processing. I hope he got it before being transferred.

The whole prison experience thing breaks my heart, too, fastdogmom. I just got a letter from my friend and he is grumpy as a bear... lockdown, you know. From what he has told me about LCF, there are a lot of gangs and prison 'clicks' and time among the general population, which is where the roughness comes in. I'm totally new at the whole incarceration process, too, and let my friend guide me in all things "prison." He is very patient with me... I ask a million and ten stupid questions... and answers my inquiries. He tells me the food at LCF is "regurgitated dog food" and that he's always hungry. I try to send a few dollars every payday so he can have snacks from commissary. I wish your friend luck. It's a very difficult experience. Take care and God bless.
