Question Question about transfering phone account/card?

...but I was just thinking about how soon my guy might be able to call me from his new "pad" at OSP and I wondered if he can use the phone account/card that he had at SRCI or does something have to be done to transfer it to OSP? It just occurred to me because of that recorded message you get at the beginning that they might have to do something with the card hence the delay. Does anyone know?

I am more asking because his Mum is so worried and any info I can give her that this situation is normal would really help her right now.

Thanks in advance for your help and understanding.

If he has money on his phone account, he'll be able to use his funds for those calls whether he is at SRCI or at OSP. If his mom needs to change her local # as well, both of you will have that wait on getting those #'s added to his phone list. And if he needs to make collect calls in order to speak with his parents to let them know how he is doing then I'm sure that he'll call to check in with them just as soon as he is able to 'cuz undoubtedly he knows their concern for him (as well as yours for him!)!!! There wouldn't be any special transfer or anything of his account required due to his change of location--his phone account remains the same.

Was he back in general population before he left SRCI? Or was he transferred to OSP out of the hole? Have you called OSP to check if he's mainline or not? Can his parent's speak to his new counsellor to see what this transfer will mean for him (I know how close you all are with him!)?? Anyway, as you mentioned... 10 months to go!! *envious*!!!

Yeah he was back in GP before he was transferred so I guess he should be mainline as soon as hit OSP...although I have no clue if they follow any special procedures for the first few days or something??

He has funds on his card so should be able to call but I appreciate he may be figuring out the new routine in there with regards to times they can access the phone etc. I found out the counsellors name today so his folks are on that...I am sure we will know more soon, I just want to try and help where I can which is difficult from here. I hate to think of everyone worrying plus I know J will equally be worrying about us worrying!!! lol!!

Why is everything so complicated with DOC?

Hey ho...it will pass!! For us all!

He should be able to call right away, but OSP is different than the other institutions I've had experience with. OSP has a lot more cell time. Also, the guys only get yard once a day except for every 3 days they get night yard. It alternates every other day between morning yard and afternoon yard. The only phones are on the yard - no day rooms. So if you have morning yard and it's foggy then you get no yard at all that day (unless it's your day for night yard). They also run canteen during yard which really cuts into their time to use the phone. By the time you stand in canteen line, take your stuff back to "house", and take a shower your time is just about up. So if you or his family are used to getting phone calls every day that's probably not always going to be the case at OSP (at least from my experience). But the good thing is that if they end up in the right section when they go to the hole they will have access to a phone every other day. There's a lot more I could say about OSP (I actually like SRCI a lot better which is a scary thought) but those are the basics on the phone situation. Hope that helps.

That is wonderful information...thanks so much for taking the time to share! Sounds like we will be in for a whole other routine from here on in then!!

I keep telling myself that it will be okay and that I won't be tested beyond what I can endure but I gotta say this is grinding me down a little!! Oh well, no use complaining...it will all work out eventually!

Rossifan, Hugs to you. Hang in there girl, it will be ok. What ever you do, don't revert to the choccies! He will call soon, you got to get your new number and get it registered on his call list, maybe he can call his mom collect soon, it will all be ok my dear girl. It isn't fun dealing with DOC, but we do live through it. Take a walk today, and get some fresh air, that will help you to feel a little better. Then, sit down and write him several letters to mail out. You know that he misses those the most, and needs them the most when he doesn't have them. Send him a couple pages of some kind of word puzzle, to help him to pass the time. Give the letters a big kiss (without lipstick), say an extra prayer over them for him, and let them "go" knowing you have done all that is possible, and leave the rest in God's hands. Again, I give you more hugs.
