Talking amazed how crappy imates are treated...

SO yesterday I got my first visit with my wife since going to tdcj. She is at Dawson and it was a contact visit, which is awesome. Being able to kiss her and hug her for the first time since November was a great shot in the arm. It was a great visit and I cannot wait to go back.
OK, so she was moved to Dawson on Friday morning from Woodmam, she goes on to tell me about the exerience of standing outside without their jackets for two hours in the rain and sleet with there property bags beside them getting drenched. There was a fenced in covering they could have moved them too, but no they just had to stand and wait there for the bus. Unbelievable. It just amazes me.
There is no question here just observation. I am happy to report that I had been very worried about Dawson reading threads on here, but the info I got from her really set my mind at ease. She is now being treated well. Gaurds are not jumping their ass every five minutes with really double jeopardy of you are damned if you do and damed if you don't. She feels safe. She doesn't get to go outside, but she gets to help other inmates by tutoring in math. She is getting medication she needed that woodman wouldn't provide. Woodman pretty much pawned her off, but it now seems for the better. Great visit. Guards are very courteous and helpful. Nothing like I feared.

I was recently talking to another member about how mean and dumb some CO's can be. I see no point in letting inmates stand out in the elements. And then a several hour long bus ride in those wet clothes. How sh*tty! I'm glad you were able to visit with your wife and that she's in a better place. Kudo's to her for tutoring other inmates. That's something that will definitely help make things go by faster for her.

OH yeah, she is a wizz in mathmatics! So funny story. They had her COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS there in front of her and said they couldn't find her High school transcript. So they accussed her of forging it! Really? She gave them the school and counselors name and they called and got her info, but so funny. She has 2 college degrees in front of them and they are focused on high school diploma. Just had to share...I thought it was funny.

Sorry she had such a hard time when she first got there (I've heard other stories like that), but it sounds like she's adjusting. It sounds like she found something to do that will not only benefit other inmates, but her as well. I work in Downtown Dallas, so she's not that far from me!

Very cool...I lived in Dallas since 2001 and then I moved to west texas while all of this has been going on. Can't wait to get back to DFW! Yeah, I am glad that intake is over and she can just concentrate on doing what she has to do and hopefully we will be done with this soon enough!

My thought on the abusive mentality by gurads is a reflection of each unit Warden, If that unit has a Warden with compassion and common sense then its trickled down throught the ranks. But, if the Warden plays hard ass and makes their own rules, than its a terrible unit to be stuck in.

Glad your wife has landed in unit where she's treated good.

Glad you had a good visit. If standing out in the rain is as bad as it gets for her, she'll be just fine. Hope you get to see her again soon!

Your So Right On The Wardens,Let Me Say I Worked For A Female Unit,Transferred To CO From Being A Clerk And I Quit! I Hate The Way They Are Treated. And Yes About The Standing Out In The Cold, That's How It Is And They Ain't Gonna Change Just Because Its Cold Outside. The Units In Gatesville Really Aren't That Bad When It Comes To The Co's That Treat Them With Respect. But There Aren't Many Out There, Which Pretty Much Sux!

That is simply unbelievable. I wonder if these guys had high school diplomas.

lol, my husband has a college degree as well. when he went through intake they went over his h.s. diploma, and college degree, past work experience, etc... then they assigned him a job. he went to that job, and on the first day they told him "you can't work here - this is only for people with no education and no skills" (these are the people they want driving fork lifts??) like he had specifically asked to be there or something.
Yea, these guys aren't always the sharpest tools in the sheds I'm glad she is at a better place now. That must be quite a relief

I wonder sometimes. What is it that the guards accomplish by treating the offenders like, animals? Or worse. Do they get rewarded or get extra pay for doing sh-- like that? They have got to be stupid and evil.

It is quite simply abuse of power. It's one of those things that occurs when someone lacking of self esteem, with poor communication and social skills is paid to perform a task well above their intellect and integrity. They are poorly trained, mismanaged, ill-equipped and often held unaccountable by their superiors. Stupid and evil, perhaps. Although I had always considered evil to have some semblance of intelligence.

I couldnt agree more. The only thing I'd add is the pay, you get what you pay for and TDCJ is certainly proving this for sure.
