Angry Inmates punished due to phone conversations

I had a couple of phone conversations with my son and he was snatched and sent to confinement so we could no longer talk. CORRUPTION? You Bet!

A conversation I was having with my wife was disconnected and she called right back. We got as far as asking each other what happened when an officer approached her and informed her (I could overhear) that Master Control disconnected the call because we were being disrespectful to a staff member and if it continued she was going to the hole.

It is against the rules for an inmate to be disrespectful to staff - it does not have to be to their face. If the conversation is overheard they are culpable.

All conversations on prison inmate accessible telephones are monitored and/or recorded for review. Offensive language, passing information on other inmates, talking about revenge on someone outside etc etc will get the call cut off. Many prison phone systems will also disconnect if their equipment detects that the call is being forwarded.
Even conversations in no contact visit rooms are monitored and can be cut off.
All these telephones have notices posted that the calls will be monitored as well as being advised in their orientation paperwork.

Ah . . . Communication between inmates isn't allowed at least in my state. My man's brother is also incarcerated. He'd sent a written request to the warden to be able to write him himself but was denied. Via the family tree his brother asked me to let him know he was fine and that he loved him. They took the letter and we both got a written response as to why. It was rediculous in my eyes. I wasn't speaking in code nor would I know how but I imagine rules exist for a reason.

Our calls have been disconnected before b/c more than a minute passed without either one of us speaking I was crying and trying to stop crying so we could finish talking...He tried to call me right back but it wouldn't go back through till the next day.

The DOC can say all the want to about wanting familes to communicate and stay together but I think secretly they want to push us away from each other.

Welcome to PTO Birdman

Unfortunately, any conversation-written, over the phone, or at visitation is subject to monitoring. If something is said that is against policy, or they find suspicious, they will take action. Sorry this is happening.

You should keep a radio or TV on in the background. So long as he can hear it over the line the silence will remain golden.

This is the first time I've used this forum so excuse me if I make any mistakes. What I can't get is how they can listen to every prisoner's phone calls - the time it would take! But I can't help but feel that they "lost" my son's request for me to attend the first "Social" because I was talking to him about how I would like to talk to other family attendees and give them my first name and e-mail so we could form a support group so our complaints would have more impact and not centre on any one inmate.

Perhaps not the best impression to make to the staff.

You will probably find many of the other inmates wives and family in the respective state prison forum.

In addition to monitoring all phone calls (live or recorded for review) you should be aware that most areas, especially the visiting area is monitored for sound as well as video monitoring. Your man may not be public enemy #1 but there are quite a few that warrant close monitoring.

Loosing telephone and visitation PRIVILEGES is very easy.

here in the UK they only monitor phone calls in high sec prisons but they still lift some random phone calls in every other prison in order to just "check" we dont have the same kinda thing over here in regards to gangs etc but one thing which is made very clear is that our phone calls will be randomly screened at some point (live/recorded) and inmates (oddly) are not allowed to have a photograph in there with themselves on it?! strange i know but as someone said above rules are there for a reason.
if your phone calls keeps getting d/c write to the governor and ask for a reason why, i'm sure they'll inform you. xxx

"if your phone calls keeps getting d/c write to the governor and ask for a reason why, i'm sure they'll inform you. xxx"

English to American translation: governor = superintendent at prison.
