Default Illinois River Correctional Facility

Illinois River Visitation Informaton. Visitation is 8:30 am to 8 pm. You must arrive by 6:00 pm. During the week, visitition is 4 hours. Weekends 2 hours.

You are allowed to bring the inmate 5 types of reading materials (books, newspapers or magazines). You must fill out a form, which is located to the right of the check-in desk, when you arrive.

Sign-in at the check-in desk. You must supply a picture id and another form of ID. Leave ALL of your belongings in the car because the only thing you can bring in to your visit is a debit card (which you can purchase in the entry-way of the sign-in desk). FOR MORE DETAILS (if you have children), please check the IDOC website for additional info.

Debit card. Prior to your visit, you can purchase the debit card in the entry way of the check-in desk. The card costs 1 dollar. Then, you can load the card to the amount of 40 dollars. Use the old (small face) 10 dollar bills because the debit card machine doesn't read the new 10 dollar bills. Make sure you have the correct amount of money because the 2 guards at the desk are not helpful.

When you sign in, you have to present your driver's license and write down in the prison daily log your driver's license number and your license plate number.

If you need more details...I'd be more than happy to supply them.

Illinios River is in Canton, Illinois. About 3.5 hour drive from Chicago. If you stay the night, I recommend staying at the bed & breakfast (the Landmark Inn - they have a website) in Canton. It costs the same as the hotels in Canton (which I wouldn't stay at even if I was a ghost).

I visit my boyfriend very frequently at IL river and sweetblonde I can tell you this you WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT be able to reach the prison via public transportation. It is almost impossible because the prison is in the middle of nowhere literally.
