Exclamation Son being moved from protection (Very old thread)

MY SON HAS BEEN IN PROTECTIVE SEGREGATION FOR MONTHS AND HE WAS TOLD HE WAS BEING MOVED INTO A GP YARD. HE APPEALED AND WAS DENIED. I APPEALED TO EVERYONE THAT WAS INVOLVED AND TO NO AVAIL.
MY SON'S UNCLE IS A COP, AND IT CAUSED MY SON TO BE INJURED VERY BADLY ON A GP YARD ALREADY. HE WAS INJURED TO THE POINT HE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY.
HE HAS ALWAYS FOUGHT HIS WAY THROUGH EVERYTHING, AND WHEN HE SAYS HE ISN'T SAFE IT HAS TO BE FOR A SERIOUSLY GOOD REASON!
MY SON WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MOVED ON THE 20TH OF THIS MONTH (YESTERDAY), AND ACCORDING TO THE WEB SITE HE HASN'T BEEN MOVED YET... ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOW REFUSNG TO GIVE INFO ON WHEN AND WHERE HE WOULD BE MOVED.
SUPPOSEDLY FOR HIS "SAFETY" WELL IF THEY ARE STILL "LOOKING OUT FOR HIS SAFETY" THEN THEY NEED TO KEEP HIM IN PS UNTIL SPETEMBER WHEN HE IS RELEASED.
HE HAS NO WINDOW NO REAL HMAN CONTACT YET THIS IS BETTER THAN MY SON BEING INJURED OR WORSE.
EVIDENTLY HIS SAFETY ISSUES CONCERN A SECURITY THREAT GROUP, AND I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CAN IGNORE MY SON'S PLEA FOR SAFETY.
I WAS TOLD THAT HE CAN REFUSE THOUGH THEY WOULD HAVE TO "PUNISH HIM" FOR THE REFUSAL!! HOW SICK..
WHAT CAN I DO? WHAT CAN HE DO?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THIS..

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this. I can only imagine what you are going thru, feeling helpless to fix the situation. I'm sorry I have no info to help but perhaps talking to the local Ombudsman's office? Good luck and my prayers are with you.

God Bless,

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I will keep the both of you in my prayers. My husband was also in protective custody here in FL & although they couldn't tell me when or where he was going for security purposes, they did transfer him to another facility. But you can believe i called EVERY day...i told them if they put him back in general pop & something happens to him, THEY will be responsible.

Post Security Lieutenant

Find out from his classifications officer who the prison security lieutenant is, and what the phone# and email is. i would then call him and follow up to document your conversation with an email. if you cannot get him on the phone, send the email. and, were it me, i would be copying the warden as well.... but - in my experience so far; the security lieutenants have been very accomodating. good luck ...

I'm wondering how anyone put it together that his uncle was a cop. hopefully he gets moved to another facility where he can be safe. If anyone asks him if he's related he needs to say no or he's going to have problems wherever they move him. I'm sorry both of you are going thru this and really hope it works out for you.

My prayers are with you and your son. I can't imagine having to live with this compounded worry it is hard enough having our kids in prison, let alone having to worry about their safety.
Let's just pray that your son is being moved to a safer prison. You know they don't tell you when they are being moved, so hopefully that is the case for you and your son, and you will have peace soon.
It is unexcusable that the staff would even consider putting your son back in the population that abused him. Your son refusing to go and being punished is also appalling.
Please keep us posted!

I believe that all of that info is in his PSI report. and as far as I know any GP yard you walk they will check your PSI to see if you are no good or whatever. I hope that all goes well for this young man it is a shame that these stupid politics would cause someone harm over their uncles decision to be a cop, that has nothing to do with him. I would keep calling the jail everyday and bugging the crap out of them to make sure he stays okay.

when I did my state time years ago - actually over 20 years ago, it wasn't like that. When I did my 10 months Fed, you weren't allowed to have it, it was actually contraband and you could catch a shot for it.

Maybe the prison websites are not always up to date concerning him being transferred. I pray this gets resolved for you and your son.

I see your post was made a few weeks ago -- I hope you've found answers and your son is doing okay!

In case it's still relevant for you, what I'd do is contact top level staff at his prison -- warden and deputy warden -- requesting an investigation. They won't come back to you with their decision, most likely, but they will make themselves aware of what's what. At the same time, make your voice heard at the DOC head office. Do they have a constituent service office? Talk to them, and to anybody else you think might be relevant. Make sure they know your voice and your son's story.

It's a sad fact, but I've found that prisoners with vocal outside support have their needs met more quickly than the guys who have nobody to speak for them.

Sending good thoughts to you and your son.

to put a person back into gp when there has been a history of violence toward him is a lawsuit waiting to happen....it is the prison or jails responsibility to protect each prisoner and if a prisoner reports that they do not feel safe in gp they have to respect and adhere to guidelines protocol...i cant stress enough that if they r actually ignoring his wishes then u r in ur rights to seek legal action with a court order...ur reasoning will be an open and shut case any judge that hears it will see that an order is made keeping ur sons request upheld..simply put they cannot do this to ur son and it is a violation on there duty to any prisoner...its like a black gang member being put in with a white gang member...big trouble for both inmates and prison staff...best of luck.
