The Southern Regional Jail, located in Beaver, WV, is one of ten Regional Jails that will be operating in our state. This modern facility, which was built in 1994, is a state-of-the-art facility consisting of three pods housing approximately 350 inmates. The facility serves eight counties including Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers, and Wyoming. This facility also serves as a temporary holding facility for Federal inmates. Additionally, the facility contains a separate booking area where inmates are processed utilizing the latest computer and imaging technology. The facility also has a full gymnasium, a 24-hour Medical unit, full-time educational personnel, counseling staff, and much more. The facility is staffed with approximately eighty uniformed correctional officers and approximately thirty non-uniformed support staff members. The facility is primarily overseen by an Administrator; a Chief Correctional Officer; and a 1st Sergeant.

Located in beautiful Southern West Virginia, Beaver is within a short, five-minute drive from downtown Beckley and only fifty miles from Charleston, the State Capitol. Southern West Virginia is a common destination for many tourists who frequent the area in order to ski, whitewater raft, hunt, fish, and visit the World’s Largest Arch Bridge located in Fayetteville, WV. The New River Gorge National River Headquarters is also a short drive which introduces visitors to the many attractions of the New River, one of the world’s oldest rivers. Beckley’s Exhibition Mine is a major attraction that allows visitors to be transported into a former mine to see first-hand how coal mining was done a half century ago.

Non-Contact visits are 30 minutes long. You must be registered at least 30 minutes before your visit starts.

You may call one time per day to schedule a visit. Walk-ins are not accepted.

Up to three people are allowed per non-contact visit.
