Default felony and guns

I just got my concealed weapon permit. Once my man gets out of prison - and to a halfway house or on parole - will I be required to give up my gun once we start living together? He has a felony drug charge. Thanks...

Yes it is my understanding that anyone with a felony cannot own a gun or live in a house that has one or I think even be around them.

You can keep your gun, if you have a place to put it that he will never be around, and never have access to at any point in time. Not only can you not have the firearm around him, you can't even store the ammunition where he has access to or is around.
It doesn't make any difference if he doesn't even know it is there, if they are found in the same proximity, he will be in trouble.

This includes riding in any automobile that may have a firearm in it, so if you have relatives or friends that carry, do not let him even ride with them unless you have verified beforehand that the firearm has been removed, and he will not come in contact with it or be in the same place that it is.

Default gotta go

Get rid of it. My baby is doing 20 years because he was with someone who had a gun and he didn't know about it. He had prior felony charges which he did time for and was not allowed to be anywhere near a gun. So he is doing time for someone else's gun. Really sucks.

Oh hell no...he has lost his constitutional right to ever own a gun, be around a gun or anything FOREVER. That's just the way it is.

And I think you may want to check into it, but I belive that may include other items such as bow and arrows and such. Make sure and do some research regarding this.

Yes, it is forever (for him). If you keep it in a gun safe to which he has no access to the safe or key, then maybe that will be okay, but why take the chance? Especially if parole officers are going to be doing random checks of your house.

I think its a stupid law, but it seems other states have the same law. At some point I and/or he may need a gun to defend ourselves and there we will be - without one. I don't understand the point of it. But, I wouldn't want to jeopardize his freedom so when the time comes, I'll get rid of it, but still!!

It's not just other states, it's ALL of them. It's also a federal offense. Once someone is convicted of a felony they lose their constitutional right to bear arms. There are also a lot of states where they lose their right to vote forever. Colorado is not one of them, they can vote when they discharge their sentence.
