Arrow Intro--MagicStallion from Delaware

Good day all. Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself, I’m Jim or Magic I’m a 42 year old guy who has done his time both in and out of County, State and Federal systems (I guess I was a slow learner ). I have been walking the striate and narrow for 6 years now and it feels good. I know all too well the pain we as prisoners not only suffer upon ourselves but more so our loved ones our wives who may know we have done wrong but stand by us, our mothers who we know love us unconditionally and who many times ask themselves where they went wrong with us, and of course our little ones who if they are lucky are too young to know anything but still know more than we think.

I do my best to be an open book, lending my past experiences to those who care to ask about an ex-convicts feelings or thoughts both then and now. The question I am asked the most is “What is it really like?” and I guess to answer that would depend on the individuals state of mind and mental strength in the ability to be free in their mind. I wrote a poem back in 1999 for a friend and I think it sums up the experience well.

Behind the Bars
© 1999 JHS
---------------------------------------------------
Behind the bars, behind the wall
The mounting tension and jailhouse brawls.
Illiterate fools & intelligent cons,
Are all in it together and are all merely pawns.
Here in this hole made eerie by smoke,
They all veil their fears with a laugh or a joke.
Each telling tales of his own false bravado,
Each fancies himself a real desperado.
But when the lights are all out and their locked in their cells,
There alone with the fear that in each of them dwells.
One of them is lonely and misses his lady,
Another one dreams of vacation in Haiti,
Still yet another wishes he was home in his bed,
Whale the one next to him thinks he’d be better off dead.
Sure they’ll all be free in a few years or more,
Not one of them knowing what life has in store.
Each one is sure he’ll be able to cope,
He’ll give up the booze, the stealing, the dope.
Each has his plans for a bright new beginning,
And each ones a looser who would rather be winning.
But something strange happens when he’s finally released,
All that positive thinking has suddenly ceased.
As the door starts to open he sees freedom through the crack,
But deep down inside he knows he’ll be back.
-------------------------------
I found my way to this sight looking for contact information for my younger brother who was recently incarcerated in Delaware and I happened upon your site and now I know better than ever the questions we have with a loved one lost in the system.

Be Safe & Well
Jim

Congrats on your successful life! You've learned much and you can be a great help to those who are still facing similar situations and those who may have questions and concerns. Check out the forums for your state and for those who have been released...

I see you were looking for your brother...i hope you found him...you know better than most the importance of contact and regular communication being the major support for him right now.

Thank you, I think you have a wonderful site here. It is wonderful that people are doing something constructive instead of sulking and most of all they leaqrn they are not alone and others understand them unlike many time in the "real world" where they may be looked at and whispered about by so called friends.
You do a wonderfull job modding the sight, thank you for all you do.
