Cool Pre-Sentence Investigator--How much info do I give them?

OK, so I am going to be sentenced in about 4 weeks. The judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation. How much information should I give the investigator? I hear that the (PSI) report stays with you for life--- the DOC refers to it constantly for programs and prison placement etc.....

How thoroughly do they look at your records-- what resources do they have availible to get juvenile records from another state?

Some of my offenses are not listed on CCAP, will they still find out?
The 6 page report they want me to fill out is EXTREMELY detailed...they want to know mother, father, friends, partners, did you graduate, income, drug addictions, juvenile records, what color my underwear were on tuesday of last week etc.......

After I give them all the information they want, they will totally use it against me at sentencing. Why would I want to give them ammo? How effective is this PSI? Has anyone had any experiences with a Pre-sentence investigator, did it help them or hurt them at sentencing? How did it effect them once on the inside?

Thanx in advance for your replies.

I think the psi helped me immensely at my sentencing. the writer wrote the report in a way to make it look like there were extenuating circumstances behind my criminal conduct. I would recommend giving them everything they ask for and being honest, as I think the max for your offense is 2 years and that's what they're looking at giving you anyway, so it could only help. That's just my advice though. you do what you're comfortable with.

Thank you for the advice Finally Out---you always have good advice for me. You are probably right.

I talked to my friend who got 3 years for drug offense (she was released in 15 mos) still on alot of paper though----she said that her pre-sentence investigator helped her too.

I have another girlfriend who just got 2 years for the same offense (5th dui) same county, same D.A. , same public pretender, same judge-- she just went into prison in May, and wrote to tell me that I will probably only do 10 mos. JUST LIKE YOU SAID!!!!

10 mos. really doesnt sound that bad. I feel a little better.

Thanks again Finally Out!!!

10 months will be easy(well, as easy as it can be). I know it's still scary as hell, but think about it in small increments. you will get there and it will take about 2 months to staff you and put you in a dorm. Then you will get to work and the remaining 7-8 months will go really fast. If they recommend any programs, do them cause they will not give you early release if they're not done. keep me posted.

Any information regarding your charges do not speak to them about. consult with your lawyer about what info, if any you should give out.

I read a post of yours earlier on this summer regarding conditions at Wauksha county jail. Could you please elaborate on them? how horrible are the guards? do they give you your meds perscribed by your doctor? What is the food like? do people try and pick fights? I may be headed there and I'm REALLY SCARED. I've never been to jail before.

I was never in Wauksha jail, I may have been talking about the "count" that person had. But I am sure its just like any other county jail in wisconsin. I know your scared, I am too. But having this site to find answers to our questions is such a blessing bella. Are you going in for a dui? What count is this?

Question YIKES!! Ms. Glove!!

Well, I am so sorry about your experience with the PSI investigator. Sounds like a scrwd up deal. I have already been to mine, and gotten the report back. She recommended huber and probation-- YAY!! Probably doesnt mean jack shoot though cause the judge has the final say,,, and the D.A. wants to fry me. Be careful though--- the PSI investigator did write down every single word I said--- from word to word--- even the cuss words. So now here I am hanging in the wind, dont know how much weight the judge will put on what the PSI report says. Don't know if the judge even cares what is in the PSI report. Anyone else know if the judge usually goes by what the PSI recommends?? Will be sentenced in less than 3 weeks!

Hi stranger....how's it going? Great deal on your presentence report. The judges usually kindof go along with the psi or somewhere in the middle of what the da wants and the psi. I think you may get a year in huber and a ton of probation. Keep me posted.

Yeah Finally Out, I was really scared to go to the PSI investigator, nothing like being interrogated for everything you have done wrong in your life. I couldnt believe that she recommended only huber and probation. Like I said, I cant give it much thought though cause the D.A. wants to fry me. I am sentenced on the 20th of Sept. I will hope for the best and I have already prepared for the worst. Will keep in touch.

Thank you again,

melon
