Prisoner Dies In OC Jail

SANTA ANA – A 48-year-old inmate being held in the sheriff's medical ward was found dead in his cell early Monday morning, authorities said.
The inmate was found unresponsive by deputies at 3:15 a.m., said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.ADVERTISEMENT

Sheriff officials declined to immediately identify the man, describing him only as a 48-year-old being held in Men's Central Jail.
The man was being held in a cell in Ward C of the Santa Ana jail, Amormino said, which is where inmates receive medical care.
Deputies performed CPR when they found the inmate, but were unable to resuscitate him.
Amormino said deputies have found no suspicious circumstances in the death.
Why the man was under medical observation, or how long he had been in custody, were not immediately released
