Smile Visit at FCI Herlong this weekend

I am going to visit my boyfriend this weekend at FCI Herlong, and I was just wondering about visitation procedures there....Do they have ionscan? Will they wand you if you make the metal detector go off (I have a plate in my leg from breaking it). Can you hold hands? What should I bring, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have a plate in your leg, it is helpful if you get one of those cards from your doctor that gives that information and take that with you - like they have for use in airports.

Hope you had a good visit....my loved one is in FCI Herlong...I'm posting this after your visit...so if you were able to make it, then all of your questions were answered. I'm curious though...how was the weather? I'm planning a trip within the next week or two and hope it's not snowing...I think there is a certain area along the highway that requires snowchains which I know nothing about.

Hope you had a good visit!

The visit went well! I actually visited two weekends in a row. The weather was terrible though. I have four wheel drive, so some places were manageable without chains, but there were a couple spots that required chains either way. If you are coming from Reno there are people on the side of the road that will put chains on for you for a fee. If you are coming from Susanville there aren't people to do it for you. I put them on myself though and it wasn't so bad.

I'm so glad that you had a great visit..and two weekends in a row! Ooooh I didn't want to hear that about the weather or the snow chains...but I remember seeing a sign posted on the side of the road saying something about chains required. I better figure it out now...I'm visiting the weekend of New Years and have no idea what the weather will be like, but I do know that I don't want to travel all that way and not be able to visit because I didn't have chains ...I'll be coming from Reno. Any idea how much those folks on the side of the road charge to put the chains on? About how long does it take? I'm going to be in a small car so hopefully they won't be too hard to put on.

Thanks!

Hi ladies

I was planning on visiting this weekend at Herlong, but the weather is going to be bad, so I may decide not too. Just be careful last time I went the guys on the road charge about 40 for chains to be put on. Just make sure you carry your own. If not they will charge you a whole lot for them.

That's what I'm worried about - the weather. I'm planning to go up New Year's weekend, but I was going to drive this time instead of flying (it's cheaper), but driving from LA and having to go through the mountains...I just don't know...I haven't been up since October and really wanted to go, but it's such a long drive and would be even longer in bad weather.

Thanks for the 411 on the chains.

Yea when I went they were charging between 30 and 40 to put them on if you had your own. I was gonna try to go again this weekend but the weather was bad and last time it turned my supposedly 3 and a half hour trip into 6 and a half hours so I decided to hold off :[

Well I'm going to keep my eye on the weather and see what it looks like for NYE...I've got the time off from work and if the weather would just cooperate...I can spend New Years with my loved one *heavy sigh*
