Hi everyone, I just wanted to post to let you all know that I had sent in some paper (15 sheets each) to a friend, there was four packages, two had 15 each PINK paper and the other was darker grey. They sent back the dark grey stating he could not have it. It said we could not even WRITE on that color as it's NOT allowed in the SHU, so just a FYI to you all, if you didnt know already.

I'm curious as to why the limit is 15 sheets of loose paper? anybody know?

In a large envelope, I can send a pad of paper, 40 stamps and 40 envelopes, right? But, if I send loose paper, even in a large envelope directly from the post office, it has to only be 15 sheets, right?

Just trying to figure out the why behind the regs, and making sure I don't waste $ and time sending something that'll be sent back...

Oftentimes they set very low limits on stationary, books, photos etc. My husband once told me this was because there is no room in the SHU cells for a lot of extras.

I also say the best practice is to call the mailroom and ask specifically what SHU/PHU inmates are allowed.

Angry did COR REALLY throw out my man's pictures!!!

I just got the first letter my man sent me after being transferred to the COR SHU, and I'm REALLY mad!

I put $ on his books in case he had any trouble or needed anything, and he was told that he could only keep 15 of his more than 60 photos and that even tho he had the stub from jpay saying I put money on his books the day before, he was told by the guards that it would take 2 weeks to clear or whatever, and the rest of his photos and other stuff would be thrown out AND the guards were going to choose which photos he was gonna be able to keep. He had a lot of pictures of his dad and grandpa who are both dead now and all the pictures he had are not replaceable.

Here's what he wrote:
"They said I can only have 15 pics and that they would pick out the ones that I can keep and the rest would be sent home if I had money on my books. I told the cops that I just got money put on my books and that I have the J-Pay stub that I got yesterday but the cops said that it will take two weeks before it clears and at this time I don't have any money on my books so I must give up the rest of my pics and a few other things and that they would go in the trash and some of my stuff would go to the prison... They threw my other pics in the trash and most of them I can't replace, I had a lot of pics, over 60, and now I have 15."

Did they really throw them out?
If I call and offer to pay to have at least the pictures, and whatever else of his shipped to me will they do it?

Help!

If he had received the J-pay receipt then the money was on his books. You need to talk to R & R and talk to who is in charge of property and find out what is going on. He also needs to be 602-ing the situation

I called. He has the stub, they still* don't show record of $ on his books
All his stuff was destroyed on the 12th. I called today, the 14th. I spoke to someone who said they had a form that he signed and he checked the box to "render useless and destroy" excess property- but I just don't believe that he would sign that! The guy basically told me that if he hadn't signed that form I could have had it all shipped to me... or if I had called earlier... don't know how I could have called earlier it takes freakin forever for the mail to get to me or him. *growl*

Anyway... I just sent him like, 15 pictures just last month- pictures of me and my friends from the last 10 years that I can't replace. I'm just upset- and mad and sad and there's nothing I can do so I feel so useless and helpless and powerless and I HATE that!!

What is a 602??

What is a 602[quote]

I’m sorry that you are feeling that way… My hubby lost pics from his childhood due to not having money on his books when moving to the SHU. Unfortunately for the most part we are helpless against their system. Always remember never send in what can not be replaced, for this simple reason…. They are only allowed 6 cubic feet of property....read through here you'll have to go down a few but go to section 54030.19 and you'll see what they are allowed to have in the SHU.
It only takes a few min to go to a Wal-Mart or somewhere that has a photo kiosk to copy in print pics. That way you never lose your memories.

A 602 is their grievance process… here is a link that explains the 602 process

Thanks. I've already written him telling him to send me whatever he has so I can copy them and send him the originals or the copies, whatever he prefers to have with him so that I have a copy at least. I'm feeling much better now- he got my letters and wrote me and I got that letter today and he sounds SO much better so that's all i really care about.

So, I just got a letter from Danny saying they tried to give him a celly that's in for rape, he told them not to move a rapist in with him- and when the guy showed up Danny told the guy that if he went in his cell he would never leave. So- he got sent to Committee and got a 115 and might get an indeterminate shu term.

I'm not mad at him, I understand- I'm kinda disappointed because him being in the SHU till he gets out in 2017 means no phone calls or contact visits-
but I understand.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

Well don't get too stressed about the term indeterminate. What that means is they get an additional 6 months added to their SHU term. At that time they go back to ICC for review. They will either kick them out or hold them for another 6 months. Now they could do this for the rest of his sentence but for refusing a cellie... unlikely

Thanks for the info. It sucks because that means 18 months till he gets out... *shrug* Either way today is just one day closer to getting to hear his voice again.

I'm trying to save up to go visit, but it's expensive since I live in Cincinnati and he's all the way in Corcoran!

He's gonna ask about transferring out here... but we're both realistic that it'll probably not happen.

So, one more day without him done, and one day closer to seeing him again. *smile*

Hello my husband is going to be transfered to the SHU in Cor sometime this week. I am a little confused because he only has three months left to serve for his entire sentence. not mention he only has until march to serve for his SHU sentence. will he be sent to GP after march? i thought it was weird that he got trnasferred so late in his sentence. he left from north kern adseg of that makes a difference. also i was curious about the whole SHU process, visitation, and mail. can anyone help thanks

If he refuses a cellie three times he will recieve a 115 each time. After three he will recieve indeterminate SHU.

From what I understand visits are 1 hour no contact- which means glass and telephones like in the movies... mail is taking (for me and my guy) about a week both ways- although I got one letter on the 28th that was dated the 24th. That's really all I know so far but my guy only got transferred to COR SHU at the end of December.

My mail takes from 3 days to two weeks to get to him, but his mail is sent out immediately and I get it within 3 days.
