Default momto2boys from AZ

My name is Sherrie and my son who is 22 was just sentenced to 2 years at Marana here in AZ

This is all new to me, an so far by reading some post, I feel a little bit better about where he is. I have not been able to talk to him since he was transferred from MCSO and that is killing me, as he would call every other day and we were able to visit on the weekends.

I hate that our loved ones being incarcerated is something we all have in common though.

I have so many questions, I have no idea how/what/what half the abbreviations? classifications etc mean. to much lingo to learn

Hi Sherrie, my son has been in for almost 3 years. It takes a few weeks to hear from them after they transfer from mcso custody to ADOC. I know it's hard to wait, but when you can talk again, and when you can visit, you'll see it's so much better than mcso. Two years will pass more quickly than you think. You will begin to get letters soon. God bless you and your son and PM me when you have questions, maybe I can help.

Mandy

My son is going to court next week to accept plea of 5 years first drug charge. I am freaking out! He has been in county almost 8 months now.... I think I really should stop watching all of the prison shows on TV...To the moms on hear is it really as bad a the lockup shows?

if you need to know what something means, ask specifically which lingo you need to understand.. make a list and we will coach you!

as for how bad it is, I found it good to not watch any lockup shows at all.
my son was never harmed in the 4 jails and one prison he spent time in over the past many years.

Default son will be sentenced next month....

My son signed plea of 5 years yesterday. It was very emotional for me as I had noone to go to court with me. I just hope I can hold it together for the sentencing. Im confused on the plea... 5 years 85% less time served... it also says his charge could range 2.5 or up to 12.5 years. Does the judge always give the five if thats what the DA an attorney agree on? Can he give him less time if he wants to? It all new to me. I thought the 8 months in county was a long time but the thought of 5 years. I realize it is him doing the time, but we as parents are also doing the time just in a differnet way.

I would say that probably 90% of the time the judge will go along with what the prosecutor recommends and what the plea states and especially when the plea is for something in the middle range of the sentencing guidelines. The judge could go for less but that's extremely rare. My son got the same sentence. With time already served your son will have about 44 months remaining or 3 years 8 months. I know it is hard to believe right now, but once he gets situated and you are able to talk and visit the time will seem to go by alot faster. We'll be here to help you get through it though. hugs....Niki

Momto2boys, welcome to the parents forum and to PTO. You've come to the right place for support, understanding and information. I would suggest that you check out the Arizona forums for answers to many of the questions you have. The Arizona DOC website has plenty of info too. Feel free to post anything that you don't understand and odds are someone will have an answer for you. Hugs....Niki

I can relate, as I'm still learning. It took me a while to figure out that PM me means send me a personal message. Ask all the questions you care to and just play around all the things to "click" on. You will learn. Welcome!
