Default 2011 Lockdown Thread***List Of All SC Prison Lockdowns***

Hey, is it true that Broad River is on lockdown because of some AIDS scare? I heard something about the prison putting the rest of the inmates in quarantines to help prevent the spread of something-or-other. Can anyone confirm?

I just found out yesterday that Kirkland R & E is on lock down. I do not know if it is only where he is or the entire Kirkland R & E.

Kirkland and Broad River are on lock down due to wide spread strains of the Flu.

SC Closes Prison to Visitors After Flu Outbreak

By Associated Press Writer | (AP)
Published: March 02, 2011

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) A maximum security prison in South Carolina is on lockdown after a flu outbreak made 10 inmates sick.

South Carolina Corrections Department spokesman John Barkley says the 1,400 inmates at Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia have been locked down since Feb. 24.

No visitors were allowed at the prison last Saturday or Sunday, and Barkley said there would likely be no visits this weekend.

During lockdown, inmates are fed in their cells and are offered showers every other day.

In January, a minimum security prison in Columbia was closed during a swine flu outbreak that made 140 inmates sick.

Barkley says both inmates and prison staff are offered flu shots.

So what I'm reading is 1.4% of the population has the flu so let's close the whole thing down and feed them cheese sandwiches in their rooms for 2 weeks. That will keep them healthy I'm sure. Why not just quarantine the sick inmates??? Or has no one thought of that???
