Default Death Penalty and the Governor

I just got this email....

Dear Friends:
The media and many others are asking this question: When will Governor Quinn sign SB 3539 into law?
The answer? When he's ready! We have to be patient, because he has up until two weeks from today. On March 18, unless Governor Quinn vetos the bill, it will become law with or without his signature.
BUT, the latest news is that Governor Quinn still wants to hear from more people! In a brief news item from WLS TV in Chicago, it was reported that "Sources close to the governor who appeared at an unrelated event Thursday night say he still wants to hear from more people on the issue."
And that means YOU.
Even if you have already called, please call him again, now, with a positive message, asking him to please sign SB 3539, the bill to end the death penalty.
Reach Governor Quinn up until 5pm CST TODAY at his State Capitol office in Springfield is 217-782-6830, and his Chicago office is 312-814-2121. If you get a full voicemail box, please be persistent and try again later today. After you call, you can also take action by going to www.ncadp.org/IllinoisAction.
After 11 years of moratorium, Illinois' state legislature has spoken clearly -- both houses have passed abolition. Now we need your help to reach the Governor and ensure he signs the bill. Remember, this legislation abolishes the death penalty, but also funds training for law enforcement and services for families of murder victims.
Many people have contacted the Governor, and he could announce his decision at any time. Click here to read Wednesday's article in the Chicago Sun Times, which mentions the communications the Governor has been receiving.

As always, we thank the tremendous staff at the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, and their national and state partners. We've been proud to be a part of this campaign.
Please go to www.ncadp.org/IllinoisAction and call Governor Pat Quinn and ask him to sign the bill. There, you can also send him an email, and you can send a thank-you message to the champions of abolition, State Rep. Karen Yarbrough and State Sen. Kwame Raoul.
You can follow the latest up-to-the-minute progress on Twitter, check our website, or find us on Facebook here and here.
Thanks again for your efforts! It's time for the final push....
