Fiance's mum might pass on tonite, how do I tell him/handle it from here on

okay yall i suck at grief, i suck at the whole step thing, i kinda even suck at consoling. i love my fiance to death though<3 his ex-wife just called my about an hour ago, awkkkkkwwwaard. and told me his mum might not make it through the night and she just got so bad over the past 2 days and she'll call me back on the home phone if anything changes, so she said..it would be better coming from me if i told him, she has his mums cell phone and he calls that so no doubt she might just pick it up when he calls and tell him herself. which would be a big ball of stupid for her. shes why hes in there so he goes . so i hope shes not that dumb...i got off on a tangent. so since im really bad,i mean im bad at dealing with this kinda stuff, when i go see him this weekend, and she does pass on...how do u think i should tell him? the best way to tell him? and how do i take care of him and talk to him during his time of grieving cause i know a lot of it will be taken out on me. i just wnan be there for him as much as i can, and since im bad at this type of consoleing i dunno wat to do or say... the jail actually advised me to not say ANYTHING at all.
