Inmates can now be released at 12:01am

This weekend while visiting Ben and I were talking to a guy who is being released next month. He was telling us that he could be released at 12:01am if he chose to be. He was going to talk to his release officer about this since there wasn't any reason for him to be there any longer than that because his family lived relatively close by.

I don't know if this is something that you have to request, but I think it might be so that arrangements can made for the release. I also don't know if every facility is doing this, but I know noone wants there loved there any longer than they have to be.

It's certainly worth mentioning to your loved one when the time comes for him/her to come home.

It does make sense, though, since as long as the inmate is accounted for at the last count for the day DOC is paid for the inmate for the next day. This will save DOC money since they won't have to feed them breakfast and if the inmate is taking the bus those bus tickets in the early morning hours may cost less.

If anyone has experience with this, please let us know.
