My hubby's nephew is now at Norton. I am in Florida. How is that facility in relation to the others in KS? I am only familiar with the Hutch East facility.

woofersrose,
I might not be the best person to answer your query as Norton is the only facility I am familiar with, however, I will give you my opinion, based on my experience.

My son has been incarcerated at Norton since October 2006. He says it really isn't a bad place, however, it IS prison. He wishes he were closer to home, but, he doesn't want to go anywhere else, as he has heard the other facilities aren't as good as Norton. Norton is a "clean" facility. He says there aren't a lot of the temptations there that are at other facilities. There aren't many people getting busted for contraband, as it just doesn't get in. He wishes he had more yard time. I think he has 2 hours, I could be wrong. They are sticklers for rules there, but as long as the rules are followed, there are no problems.

I have visited Norton several times. It really doesn't even look like a prison. It is an old state TB hospital. Of course, they have the barbed wire fences, etc. The guards have always been friendly and respectful. When I have had to call to make an inquiry, everyone I have spoken with on the phone has been very friendly and helpful.

As long as your nephew follows the rules, he should do fine. Hope this helps.

Wishing you the best.
JnKS

My man is in Norton. They won't let me see him or even write to him because I helped him escape about 6 months ago. Just looking for someone to hurt with. Anyone out there?

my man is in Norton he's been there a few months now, he said that it is VERY different there compared to Hutch, because he's used to rowdiness and fighting all the time, but ther it's more peaceful.

I'm new here and thought there weren't any people with loved ones in Norton! My son has been there for about 10 months. He's been incarcerated since Feb 2006 and has until Mar 2011. I live in Louisburg KS about 400 miles to NOrton. I'm on disability so on a limited income. I just got my visitation papers okay'd and wanted to surprise Johnny by showing up Christmas morning but don't have any $ and my sister in Fl. wouldn't wire me any. I called up there and they are very nice about giving out info. reg. visiting days are Sat & Sun 8:30 am - 3 pm Hoilday are 25th 26th 27th & 28th then next week it's Thurs Sat and Sun... NO FRI. You are allowed to take in $30 for the vending machines recommend change and 1 dollar bills. Also allowed to take in store bought food in the original packaging with reciepts, 2 liter bottles of soda. Once you go in you may not leave and return. Can not take in anything else.. no pics etc.I hope this info helps.. Hope you get to go for the Holidays .. Merry Christmas

Default Food into Kansas Prisons?

I just read Eyesofgreens - Cheri's post and was surprised to find that you can take ANY food into Norton. Can anyone verify for me that they have taken food in - legally to Kansas Prisons since April of 2008!

Please!

I went this weekend and at Tornoto, which is now being shut down, I could actually bring in homemade food. The had a picnic area and we would grill out when the weather was nice. The only thing they were picky about was that you couldn't bring in open containers or cups. The drinks had to be in sealed bottles.

Default Ncf

My boyfriend is at Norton. I can't go see him because I have worked at HCF and you can't see an inmate after you have worked at a correctional facility for 2 years. At least, I think that is the rule. I'm not familiar with NCF at all so if anyone can offer any kind of info, it would be greatly appreciated. Thnx

My fiance is in Norton and I'm interested in finding other women who drive to share the costs. I drive from Kansas City, MO to see my baby and it's a long long drive so if anyone is in the area and would like to share the costs please let me know. I'm also interested in talking to anyone that got married at Norton. We are about to go through that process now but the thread to the post is really old and still yet didn't have much info that I could use.
