Default New Castle Prison Information

I have a neighbor who's son has been recently sentenced to this Facility and she is trying to find out information on this prison.

Such as what kind of offenders are sent there, yard time, violence (Already know about the riot of '07), guards etc etc.

Her son has mentioned to her about stories he has heard of the prison so I figured I would either try and ease her mind or...cause her to sleep even less at night.

So, any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I saw a recent thread asking for information but I am hoping for more detailed information.

Hello My name is Kelli and I have been dealing with New Castle since Feb. My boyfriend says it's a nice place he's in the honor dorm he has not had any real problems since he's been in they can for the most part roam free and do what they want the only time they have to be in a certain spot is during head count otherwise they can stay up all night and use the phone whenever thats really nice since somtimes my work hrs. don't allow me to be home none to early in the evening so if he does not have to work the next morning sometimes he calls around 1 a.m. as far as the co's go most of them I come in contact with are really nice it was alittle rough getting visits going but after we did it's been smooth sailing since he's in the honor dorm and I go through the week we get a 2 hr visit every 7 days otherwise it is a 2 hr visit every 14 days I'm not sure how it runs on weekends because I've never been but I think you only get 1 hr I think this about covers it if you have anymore questions let me know and I will try and get you the answer by the way I know there are quite a few so's in there

New Castle is the only privately run prison in the state. They do some things differently than they state does. For instance at New Castle they get opportunities to send care packages from a facility approved vendor. I don't know if it is just at Christmas or if they can do this on a semi regular basis. The rest of the prisons can only send books from a store like Borders.

New Castle looks like they have some nice programs for them to get time cuts as well as trade ops.

It's a prison, but it doesn't have a reputation for being a bad place to be. He shoul be fine.

If your neighbor has other questions let us know. We're sorry she is having to deal with this, but we try to help with information.

I have a penpal there in the mental health unit. I just got a letter from him yesterday saying three offenders cut the wire in the exercise cages on the rec yard and that they had a plot to take two nurses hostage. He says that was thwarted. Anyone heard anything about this?

My husband has been in new castel since September of 08. He is in the PLUS program. However NC is becoming a Sex Offender Facility and alot of the rules are changing from when he when he got there bc they didn't house SO at all. For a prison it's ok. They deff. have some more freedoms than some of these otehrs. Example, we can hold hands durning visit. My husband is allowed a "Father's Day" in June, where we get to actually be together, and get 3 hours. Stuff like that. He does have stories though. Ones he has told me he refuses to tell me while he is there cause he knows I'll freak out. There are fights alot that I know. He has medical issues, and it's been a nightmare. But they rarely get lockdowns there and again for a prison, it's prob. oneof the better ones around. Any specific info feel free to ask.

I haven't heard anything about it, and my guy is in the segregation unit (where they have caged in rec) and he hasn't mentioned it to me. He's been in segragation for nearly a month.

Default new castel

My son is in New castel now from IYC.It is being converted over to house all sex offenders. It is privitely own and in my opion is not nearly as organized as doc.Prepare to wait..alot..They have very few lockers and if there all in use you wait for one or go back to your car and dump your stuff. It is a lot more expensive as far as commisary and phone calls. It cost 250 to connect us and 30 cents a MINTUE about 8 dollars a call.

He son is most liikely talking about the roits they had a few year back. They took in inmates from Arizona and it didn't work very well.Of course there are fights it's prision.

As a mom I'm cool with New Castel. It's fairly new and very clean.Gaurds are friendly and respectfull. He says the food is way better there and compared to IYC it's like living in a college dorm.So if he has to be in I'm glad it there

New Castle is the only privately run prison in the state of Indiana. That has it's up-sides and it's down-sides. The up-sides include that fact that it has one of the most advanced medical units available...they are even equipped to do dialysis treatments believe it or not. Compared to other facilities that's a God-send.

The criminals housed there are mostly if not all level 2's. Meaning they have fairly short sentences and generally are not violent offenders. I don't know about yard time, but visitation times and rules are posted on the IDOC website. Though I've heard they are changing things so it may be best to call the prison directly for the most current information. The website for IDOC is http://www.in.gov/idoc just look under facilities and "adult". It'll be located on the map almost near the center.

Also because it is privately run they have their own rules. Inmates are sometimes allowed things that other DOC prisons do not allow. They are also able to send an inmate a care package through a private company with pre-approved items...those packages are available about 4 times a year so she should keep her ears open for that. I think the website for the package program is http://www.indianapackages.com. I haven't been able to look at the catalog yet it hasn't been package time, but I'm interested to see what is available.

If it's any consolation tell her that if my honey doesn't get to go to Branchville, which is closest to me, I told him to try and request New Castle.

My brother was there when they had the riot. He is now in wabash and it is so much nicer at New Castle and he was level 3 at New Castle now level 1 in wabash. He should be home in a week! I rememeber before the riot happen my brother keep saying there was going to be trouble because when the AZ guys were brought in the first thing they did was take the smokes away. It was to far for family to visit. And here you have to have gov money orders and you can't send things only money orders...

I have a loved one who is a SO at New Castle. He's been there a couple of months and has had only 2 problems. 2 incidents of his stuff being stolen out of his trunk. That's it. He gets along ok with his dorm mates, has had no problems with the guards either. We got 2 hours and 15 minutes for our last visit. I can go to see him every 2 weeks. He can call at any time of day or night, except for when head counts happen. He is in SOMM counseling, which is helping him a lot. He's also getting his GED. The New Castle experiene has been so much less traumatic than we thought it would be. We get to hold hands during visits, get long hugs and kisses at the beginning and end of each visit. It's prison, which sucks, but it isn't nearly the hell hole we dreaded. Best of luck to you and yours!

And what are the rules? Any info would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time. Love and God Bless, DiannaK
