hello, i mailed my friend a letter 7 days ago and another one 5 days ago to maryland correctional insitute for women jessup md. i live just 20 miles away, so the mail travel would only take 1 or 2 days to get there. do you know if mciw inmates have mail call every day, or how often do they have mail call? thank you so very much, and be happy. donn9

If you have questions about a specific institution, it's best to search PrisonTalk's site for a thread on that exact facility-- the chances of someone browsing this thread knowing of the same place you're looking for are very slim.

But as to mail, I think it's pretty common across the nation that prison mail is SLOOOOOOOOW. I live 90 minutes from my friend drive-wise, but it's from one to three weeks mail-wise. I kid you not. Be patient! Also, make sure you verify that you have her address exactly correct.

I deal with MCIW in Jessup as well. I live 10 minutes away, and I had the same problem until I called Lois Bailey, The Secretary for the Division of Correction's secretary 410-339-5005 and filed a complaint. The Warden doesn't like to hear from Headquarters. I suggest you do the same. The mail is delivered about 8p.m. Monday thru friday.
