Default Anyone write to the warden for lifer?

Just wondering how many have written letters to the warden of the prison where their loved ones are located. Did you receive a response? Is it good to have letters on file for parole board?

Here in NY the warden has nothing to do with the parole process. I did write letters of support to the Division of Parole.

I cannot think of any reason I would want to write the warden.

The only reason to write the warden would be about a specific problem in the institution that relates to your lifer.

You can write the counselor or ombudsman about anything that pertains to your loved one and it will be in his file. Make sure you state that you want it in the file!!

Can you be more specific with your intentions to write the warden? Maybe we can help more then.

I haven't written to the warden.. yet... but am thinking of sending a Xmas card this year. The warden at the prison the lifer I write to seems to be quite progressive and has done some very new and innovative things since taking over. The warden has tried to implement a plan to stop self-harming and suicides by creating a 12 month contract with a prisoner which allows them to mutually choose who they bunk with. I guess the idea is that friends will look after each other as well as providing a safer and more harmonious atmosphere.
There's also been a programme to allow lifers to become part of a dog-training team for a Michigan pet charity, teaching dogs how to behave and the such so they're more likely to be re-homed. The dogs get to live with the inmates 24/7.

So a Xmas card to say thank you for what she's doing.

I have written the warden before...and it worked! I, along with his mother and other family members, wrote to complain about his continued placement in solitary confinement. Despite over a year of good behavior, no "write ups" they kept denying him a chance to get back in population. At his last review, the warden actually mentioned the letters of support he'd gotten, and granted him released from solitary.
