"Ladybiker3" I don't know if you'll get this but I met your daughter Wish (That's what we call her) She is a wonderful beautiful person. i am blessed to have met her.

It appears this facility has a new Electronic Drug Detection Device and over half the visitors that visited the weekend before us were turned away because they were tested positive for having particles of a controlled substances on them. There are many angry parents at this moment...

so to be safe I did as my daughter suggested each visiting day including washing down the inside of my car and gassing up the night before and washing after that.....we were not scanned on Friday so we got to have our visit....but on Saturday I had to remove my belt and that was scanned... now mind you with this NEW device an officer puts on cotton gloves, does not always change them and then he/she uses a wan and swipes it across the article they are testing then swipes it across this machine that shows the results on a PC screen that can also be printed out so there is a hard copy...the officer never said whether my belt passed the test when asked but she did sign me off to go in for my visit.... I found out after I had gotten in over half the visitors before me were turned away and I know at least ten in my group were turned away...

Now comes Sunday...as we were standing in line to get in... three came out that were tested and turned away.... one parent was a public social worker and a male that came to see his daughter just retired from the military.... (the parents that are and were being scanned and turned away on Saturday because of a particle of controlled substance are in the late 60's on Saturdays visit one visitor was in her 70's and in a wheel chair and one was a small child that they scanned the tops of his shoes!!!!)

Sunday I had put on a clean dress that came right from the store along with a brand new watch... again cleaned and wiped down the motel room to the best I could and our self and after getting to the prison before going in I took a clean towel and again wiped both my grandson and myself down really good including my watch and the see thru coin purse..... when it was our turn to sign in an officer took my plastic coin purse and swiped the wan across it, both sides...mind you she had picked up the coin purse in her own gloved hands which I know for a fact she did not put on fresh gloves and by the way these gloves were in an open box exposed to what ever is in the air...and this purse is a see thru so one could see there is no drugs in there!... she then proceeded to put this info in to the great drug detecting devise.... told me to sit.....half hour later she called me up.. I thought great it passed and we were going in... no she then wanted me to take my watch off...and she took it in her hands and swiped it and tested it.... I had asked about the results of the first test on my coin purse but she would not tell me the results so why the second testing...were they were going to keep testing till they found something.....I don't know, because they will not allow you to see the results nor did they tell us anything.... I was again told to sit..... another half hour goes by before they call me back up and in the mean time they have been testing other parents and turning them away as fast as you can flip a pan cake ... I was called up again just to be told that this time my watch tested positive for particles of a controlled substance... I asked them then to search my person, they can do a strip search, a cavity search or all the above but I was told "no" to leave...I was also refused to see the results of the test or given a copy of the test.

I have never given them any reason what's so ever in four years of visiting my daughter to test me.... I feel that they have persecuted me and deemed me a criminal...it is now in their computer that I had a particle of a controlled substance on me and there fore I am to be tested at the next visit.... this is so wrong !!!

I told the one officer that was signing the denial "notices" that there is no way one can come 1400 miles using public facilities and not come in contact with Particles from a Controlled Substance, he said "I don't care if you came from China" ....I also told him that over half the visitors were elderly and using prescription drugs along with my self..... they did not care...this new devise is set up so all visitors will be denied their right to a visit with their loved one.....

Monday my daughter went to her Captain with what I had told her on how I was tested and treated ....who of course defended his crew and how they conducted things and that they were highly trained by a professional on this drug detection devise.... he told her that one, the officer doing the test was to scan the person not any piece of article...well everything she tested was a piece of article that she had the visitor remove and hand to her...second the officer doing the testing was not to touch anything that was being tested.. the officer held each article she scanned and third the testing was to be done at random but every visitor was being tested... I was tested on Saturday and should not have been tested Sunday... I was tested both days!

My grandson was so devastated to be turned away on Sunday he cried for two hours

With this testing if you are tested positive you have to wait 48 hours before returning then you will be tested again.. if you pass great you get your visit if not you have to wait then 30 days then 90 then 180 !!!! there is no way one can pass this test... none of us have 48 hours to wait to visit we have to return home and all of us live miles away...and you can not come that far and be clean it is impossible..

A young man that was arrested Sunday morning was a17 year old child that all he wanted to do was have a visit with his mother whom he had not seen in months...he was so angry and kept telling them, the guards, that he was not a drug user he was not smuggling in drugs... parents were so up set that a small group of them began to riot...but that was soon broke up and they left.

This machine that the FCI at Dublin is using is also used in many if not all air ports...after a suit case or brief case is scanned and the results are positive they then open the luggage to search for drugs...they do not assume the person carrying the luggage is dirty as these guards made us feel. As I told my daughter, I do not blame the guards they are doing as they are told by their superiors...they should not have put this device into effect till the bugs were ironed out or the personnel operating it was better trained....

We should not have to jump thru hoops to visit our loved ones, we should not have to go into our hotel rooms just to spend the majority of our time there washing things down nor should we have to worry about what we have touched or what and whom has touched us or we should not have to worry about what material our clothing is made off and whether or not we have perfume on.... we are not circus animals, we are not criminals...all of those that were turned away these past two weeks were up standing citizens that have never given the FCI any reason to suspect them of wrong doings.

My daughter is doing life......it is not fair to me, her son or her.... if this continues as is, then I will never get to see my daughter. We must have rights??? ... and if so then our rights have been violated.....I do not object to the testing .... but there has got to be a better way... better trained personal doing the testing and if these test show any kind of particles on a person or article we are carrying then we should be given the right to be searched to prove we are clean...

I understand I am not being accusing of being a drug user but they are accusing me of smuggling or trying to smuggle drugs in by denying me visits. Because of a "particle" of a controlled substance on me or something I am carrying they are "assuming" I have drugs on me.... I also am not blaming the guards that were doing the testing, I am sure they believed they were doing things right and were doing what their superiors told them to do.... but it was all done wrong...you will not have this many parents trying to smuggle in drugs.. come on now.... these scanners are giving off false positives.. all of us know this.....

I have always showed respect for the rules and followed them to the tee..... My Stacy has never given the FBOP any reason to deny her visits with myself and her son.

SCI Pine Grove has the same machine. It sucks that you have to watch how much lotion you put on. About a year back, I went to visit a friend of mine there and they turned away a woman ahead of me. They asked her if she had stopped at the gas station to get quarters, which she did, and they told her that those types of things are all over money. She went and washed her hands and everything but she still came up positive and was turned away the second time.

I'm up here in Canada and went to visit my man a while back. There was another lady in the visiting room who was visibly pregnant. Apparently she came back to visit her SO and the ion scanner showed traces on one her belongings that had heroin and PCP all over it. Her man and my man who know each other said his SO does NOT do any kind of drug. They ended up having to have a closed visit intead of their regular 6.5 hour open contact visit.

My man said her man told him she did fill up for gas on the way there and touched money so if you're going for a visit, fill up the day before and don't touch paper money as 90% of bills have some traces of drugs on them. I even went as far to put an old but freshly washed sheet on my driver's seat, a newspaper on the floor of the car and bought a brand new pair of shoes and didn't open them till I was leaving the car. My driver' license I soaked in dishwashing detergent for the whole night and also soaked the coins in soap for the vending machines and then put them in a ziplock bag. All my clothes were freshly laundered, no perfume, no lotion. I had no problems. I don't like to wear jewelry there so they scanned my shoes. Wash your hands in the washroom there and spray your shoes with rubbing alcohol and hand sanitzer is your best friend in this case. So is soap and hot water. This time around I'm bringing new summer shoes in a bag and change them. They have lockers where my man is to lock your belongings up.

I was scanned for the first time last Monday! When the CO took out the ION scanner and asked me if I knew how it works, I almost freaked out from hearing all the horror stories on here. I kept thinking about the money I had exchanged at the hotel to have one dollar bills for the vending machines, and about the perfume I put on and the handcreme I put on in the car just seconds before I went to get processed and all these others things I had touched along the way. I was thinking "here we go, now I'm gonna get a false positive and not be allowed to see my hubby". I think the CO was just as happy as me when the scan came through green, he looked kind of relieved!

I've never done drugs a day in my life, I've never even smoked normal cigarettes, so what if I get a false positive, can I ask for the nurse to take a blood test to prove that I'm not taking drugs or what to do?

Don't know if it helps or not, but I wash all the coins I am going to take inside in soapy water, rinse, and air dry before putting it in the plastic bag that I am going to carry in. I do this before I leave home. Then I make sure I put the plastic bag inside a clean cloth inside my suitcase. I also wash my hands upon arrival at the prison and make sure my hands contact nothing after that. I am not allowed to take anything else in at the prison that I go to.

Does anyone know if they use those scanner things at FCI Bastrop or FCC Beaumont Medium?

Just some info on my experience with the scanner.....I went to fci bastrop and after everyone was thru the metal detector the officer grabbed a random form and quickly ran the scanner over the person's waistband and that was it.

I visited Dec. 2012 at Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, MO and had my first experience with the drug scanning machine. There was a piece of paper of some sort that I was told to run over my left hand, up the arm, across my shirt, down the right arm and hand. I forgot, also ran it across my waist. Then the paper was scanned and I was good to go.

CFCF (Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility) did them for everyone, everytime.

After you were searched, you'd walk back out the metal detector at the entrance to the rooms, through the waiting room, and through another detector to a desk with a CO. They use a cloth & plastic wand with some kind of solution on your hands (certain ones also did front pockets and shoulders) and put it in a machine and read the results. Never came up positive for anything. I wear perfume everywhere it can be put, too.

I visit at USP Hazelton. Every single time i go i get checked. Ive been told its Random, but EVERY SINGLE TIME its either just me, or me and two other people. I honestly think they do it based on the inmate ur visiting. Ive also visited at SCI FAYETTE, and they did it Random, SCI CAMP HILL does every single person. Ive never tested positive, but i do know at Hazelton, if you test positive, you can still visit, but its thru the glass in a room, not in person like the other visits. at least they dont send you home!!!....but what dosnt make sense, is if your wearing somthing not within dress code, they send you home. lol. makes no sense...but alrighty then!
