Smile WEST CARROLL DETENTION CENTER-visiting

Hi, when I was looking for info on what it is like to visit an inmate at west carroll detention center I could not find much. I hope what I share answers questions for others who might be wanting to know what it is like.

I visited my friend on Aug. 20, 2011

I would get there a little before 9 am when they open the gate.

There are vending machines with food and drink they only take dollars and quarters...(better to bring quarters-sometimes the dollars don't work) I would get the food upon entering-they run out. You can share the food with the person you visit.

It is not AC as you wait to check in.

You will stand in a line to check in. (make sure you have filled out the proper paperwork before going-the inmate should send you it-you must be approved) You will check in with your photo id and pay $3.00 for there id and take your pic.

You then go back out and form another line to wait to be searched. You get searched then file through a walkway to the visiting area next door.

You sit on long tables pretty close to the next ppl visiting. Visitor go on one side and inmates come in later and sit across from you.

*They were pretty relaxed about contact with my friend. We held hands the whole time. We also hugged before and after the visit and I kissed his hand and cheek. Some women were passionately kissing there men good bye at the end.

It is loud and close to others talking...not very private but I felt like we were able to talk and not feel like there were many in the room (you sort of get zoned into the visit-at least I did)

It was a very good visit.

I hope this info helps someone searching for info on how it is.

When trying to find the place keep in mind that it has a very small sign that is white with blue letters.
