Default Son went Monday

My son was sentenced Monday. He is sitting in Wake county waiting. Judge ordered drug treatment as well as mental health care. He is age 23 convicted of non violent crimes. Any predictions of where he may go????

Federal or State?
Felony or Misdemeanor?
How long is the sentence?
Family and Friends Handbook, pages 7 and 8
http://www.doc.state.nc.us/Publicati...10Handbook.pdf
will give you an insight as to what happens when he is sent to DOC?

If he's been ordered to treatment, there are several prisons which offer the "New Direction" program, which used to be a Federal program called RSAT (Residential Substance Abuse Treatment). I know this because the prison I work at his this program. Initially, he'll go to a medium custody prison for processing. Once he has processed, he will usually go somewhere close to home unless they don't have the bed space. Right now, NCDOC is on alert due to Irene, so there is really no telling where he will go now. He could be shipped as far away as the mountains, or kept with the jail inmates until the emergency is over, then shipped for processing.

my son was recommended by the judge for work release and mental health treatment. unfortunately, i have learned out of all the prisons in nc there are only 7 prisons that are med camps. warren, harnett, lumberton, new hanover, pender, avery mitchell, and mountainview. these are all medium custody with the exceptions of warren which houses both, and new hanover. ive been told pender now has both but im not sure if that is true or not. we have to travel six hours to see my son, plus the two we are there, so it makes for a long day---(not to mention the expense) especially when you only have two days off work a week.

i should have made myself more clear. when i said MED camps, i was not referring to medium custody prisons..i was referring to prisons that are MEDICAL prisons..meaning they have the facilities for medical and psych treatment. Again, only the ones I listed are medical camps. this is what i was told by someone in the family services unit of the DOC. if he was ordered to have mental illness treatment, he has to be sent to a medical prison.
