Default Intro-Fight4Equality from Florida

Hello all! I am new to the forum but have been reading posts for a few weeks now. My father is incarcerated in GA and he has suffered medical negligence in that facility, which seems to be more common than I thought. We went through a period of over 2 weeks where my father terribly ill and then became missing in action and I was told at one point that he had passed. It just goes to show you that some of the correctional facility workers are not the most well trained workers since I kept getting feed all type or wrong information. I was told "Sorry your dad is dead" Plain and simple. As inconsiderate as you can imagine.

I took matters upon myself and I was able to send out over 16 certified letters, faxes, emails to several entities made over 300 calls and I was able to make my father "magically appear" I know it sounds like a movie but he was literally marked as dead and his belongings had already been taken to the morgue. FORTUNATELY, my father was found and is alive. This occurred recently and since then I have decided to dedicate my life to help others whose family members might be in a similar situation. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help. My fight for equal rights will continue and I hope to be able to make a change.

If you have a family member that is ill or if you need help in writing letters to different entities, please let me know. I will send a letter on my behalf as well..there IS power in numbers.

I hope to meet great people and hopefully be able to help a few along the way since we have a common bond.

Welcome to PTO, glad to have you join us. I am sorry to hear about what happen to your father BUT very glad that you persistant in getting the information that you needed. People in prison do tend to "fall in the cracks" so to speak if they don't have anyone on the outside (family/friend) looking out for their best interest. That's why it so important to support your loved one's while serving time. That's what this site is all about SUPPORT! Again welcome and hope to see you around the forums.

Hello and welcome to PTO. We are so glad that you are here! What a horrible story about your dad. I am sure you were terrified and then mad as hell. Make yourself at home and make some new friends.

Thank you both! Yessss!!! Addictsmom, Needless to say, it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I lost sleep many tears. Unfortunately, I know someone else who is in the same prison who would fill me in on what they heard was going on and the rumors were horrible and ended up almost being true! I am glad that something positive has come out of my fight with the system...I was just told that 2 other inmates who have been awaiting urgent medical treatment for over 6 months were seen by dr's and it appears that it was due to my writing (MANYY) letters to different people, on their behalf. I hope that it's true and I hope I can continue to help others.

You are right closertomydreamz, unfortunately ppl in prison tend to fall through the cracks and go missing in action...it is such a sad truth!

Thank you both for the warm welcome! I truly look forward to seeing you around!
