Default HELP!!!! Need advice on getting rid of MOLD in an apartment?

I have a mold problem in my apartment. It's just about everywhere in my bedroom. I talked to my landlord and he said because its a basement apartment its going to be more moist. He told me to use a bleach and water mix on the areas i can see and that he would drop off a dehumidifier for me. I don't know what to do!!! I'm trying to decide if its worth living there or if i should find a new place to live. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You should find a new place ASAP- the mold spores will invade your clothes, your furniture and, worst, your lungs and sinuses. Most mold is merely irritating and makes things smell funny (and it does damage soft or porous objects) but some varieties of mold are toxic to people and pets.

In the interim, use the bleach solution on hard surfaces, get HEPA level bags for your vaccuum cleaner and vaccuum the furniture (including your mattress), use the dehumidifier and get a good air purifier.... your landlord needs to do a remediation on the apartment, get a contractor in to properly seal the walls and foundation and replace any carpeting (and probably any insulation in the walls and ceiling).

Also, don't know if you want to go here, however if it is a mold that keeps coming b back and is bad enough it is an option, you can call the health department(if they don't handle this in your area they will point you to the department that does) where you live....if the apartment is uninhabitable the landlord should be cited by the health department. Actually it is amazing at times how fast the landlord takes these things seriously when you call a government entity.

thanks so much guys. My landlord still hasn't dropped off the dehumidifier. I've been staying at my moms for a while now. I'll most likely move out.

And, when you do move, I hate to say this but wash all your clothes and bedding and hit your shoes with lysol before you take them to the new place to avoid transferring the mold spores as much as possible.

Why do you need to deal with this problem ? I think it's due to your landlord to solve. If he can't ,then reduce rent or move out ,you have some choice to do with it .

Girl, GET OUT!!!!!! everything in the apartment will need to be replaced...... sheetrock, carpet, all the way down to the cement and 2x4's....... It will ruin everything in the room and if it transfers to another room the same thing. The mold will continue until the moisture por water is gone. The mold is highly lethal to your digestive system and for young and old people worse. It isn't worth an early death for a discount. Call the health department and make a complaint. MOVE OUT and staate the unhealthy living conditions........ If you can move in with your mom, save some money and get a healthy place. The landlord will only fix it if he is told by the health department. The cost is severe for a landlord to gut the apartment and remodel so they wont until their forced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bleach and water will help kill what spores are active however once new moisture or water is present the spores will become active again and the process continues...... GET OUT NOW!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY

I agree. It is the property owner's responsibility to get rid of mold AND to make the repairs needed to prevent mold. If you notify the Health agency in your area that you have mold in an apartment they will force the owner to comply or condemn the property. Yes, they WILL condemn property for mold. That is nothing to play around with.

Spray bleach to affected area its surpose to kill mold. But you should have the landlord check for some type of water leaking.
