keep his eyes and ears open trust no one and keep mental notes of all that he sees around him and stay away from the negative get involved with positive people like he is who wants to make it through good luck mine is in a ohio prison to he says he minds his own business and stays out the way

My son is also in Ohio~ almost 7 years down. Best advice~ stay out of the drama. When you find out where he's going look up the place, see what kind of programs they offer and encourage him to sign up. I wrote my sons case worker and requested help in getting him into apprentice program so he can find a job after prison. That worked b/c within 9 months he was in. Then after about a year he signed up for the dog program~ that was a great program until a new person took over and now she wants my son to quit his apprentice program and become a full time trainer. I still encourage the dog program b/c the problem here is just a local one and will be corrected. Even the other CO's are not a fan of this ladies new idea's. My son stays busy between, work and any and all sports they offer. He plays football and softball like he did before prison but now he also plays handball and soccer and he loves the game! I was shocked he enjoys it so much being as he was always the big football guy ready to tackle. He said it was hard at first but now he's even coaching a team. The best thing is to stay busy and use the time to learn as much as he can. Avoid any "loans" from other inmates. I wish you and him both the best of luck!
