Rumors of rapes and CO issues at Great Meadow

My fiancee is at another nydoc facility and wishes to transfer to Great meadow, ive heard that there has been more then a few issues there with inmates being raped and serious co issues. Have any of you ladies husbands or boyfriends experienced any of these issues there?

my son was there and had /saw none of those issues. Rumors among inmates are always rampant.

I've heard about the co's being racist and unreasonable but never heard anything about rape or abuse

Ive heard that the cos sometimes are not that pleasent for no reason

My hubby has been there for awhile and he has never mentioned rape. the cos are tough but they do that hoping you won't come back. that just makes me come earlier. It is not that bad though. I think i been doing it for so long that i am numb to they antics... you just got to be strong

Hubby hasn't mentioned rape. He mentioned things that I suppose are in all prisons, the trannys and others being in "relationships" but for the most part he said racist. Your man should be good, because from what hubby says as long as you don't show them that they are getting under your skin, and follow the rules they usually slowly start to respect you... At least in his case anyway.

I know 2 inmates there and none have seen or heard about those issues. Sometimes there will be run ins with c.o's but I hear they mostly give a hard time to the "tough guys" or those who like to hassle the c.o's. My son is at a different facility but has been to a few different prison's. He has told me that most of the c.o's are actually pretty nice guys and if you give them respect and follow rules they will be respectful.

damn.... my man is currently in the box and is hoping to come out and be in this HUB!!!!but since most is saying its a rumor i guess i can be a bit more relaxed about him being there if he is sent to this HUB!!!

Butta--would not worry about--seems like all the first hand testimony is positive. My son thought it was a pretty good place in general.I found COs pretty nice there. The visit set up stinks (it is like a lunch counter rather than tables)--but still ok.

My husband was transferred to GM after 12 years in another NYS facility. It's okay. He has seen NONE of what you describe. Just like in any facility, there are some great COs and some not so great. I have always been treated with respect but have witnessed very upsetting interactions between SOME COs and inmates and/or their visitors. Just be polite, respectful and things will be fine.

The regular visit room CO is a dick. But I think he gets off on believing he's getting under your skin so the best way to manage that is to be MORE polite to him. Heehee.

My experience with GM is totally different from what is stated above. My nephew was there in the fall and was moved by IG because the CO's were beating the crap out of him on the regular. My husband is there and he is having MAJOR issues with the CO's and the mental health unit. Sexual abuse from guards, and threats against his life, the staff will not listen to him or me about PC requests that are clearly in his record. If your man is black I would not send him there, it is a hell hole.

My husband is there and he is black and he hasn't had any of these problems but it is also in his record that i will call albany and make investigations take place. I don't allow things to get out of control with my husband. I have involved lawyers and news. our loved ones are inmates and we have to be the bulldogs that they need on the outside. This is a tough situation and i just hope u all remain strong and i keep u all in my prayers.

I am with The above statement. My son has been there for 3 months. He has been treated horribly by the CO's. He has been threatend, beaten after our visits , harrassed , put in lock- in and then starved for 5 days. They spit in his food , several will suround him , harrass him , push him , trip him when he has to walk by them. This is all just wrong. This is justice? Another young man that just came in on my sons block was so scared, the Cos giving that poor boy a hard time. They beat him really bad with there batonds. The boy kept screaming Stop - No I didnt know " I didnt Know " . they decided to beat him because he picked up a screw from the floor in front of the desk where they have there call out sheet. The boy now is on suicide watch. Is that justice. ? Our Tax money pays for them to beat our loved ones? Some of these Cos are commiting crimes and are getting away with it !!!!! wheres the justice in this now ?

Have you contacted the NY inspector general? They must investigate if you file a complaint. Google their web site the complaint form is right there. They have to go to the prison and interview your son and anyone he names. Obviously make sure your son wants you to do this.

Hello Momma Ann, Yes , His lawyer and myself have done all that. We even filed a complaint with the Commissioner. My next step is an appt. with the Governor. Its One covering up for the other in there. Its Wrong! I wont stop until justice is served. This is wrong on so many levels.
