Default Property of the state

Treetrust my Older sister, called the jail and asked some questions about our little Sis. Who is being held there waiting to be moved to a state facility. To put it mildly she was spoken to with such disrespect she was told that we no longer have a sister... she is property of the state! Anything concerning her is no concern of ours. Ok I totally understand being punished for a crime. What I don't understand is treating people like they are not part of the human race. If the family members of an inmate is treated with such distain, what are the inmates treated like? Maybe it's our fault for not understanding the system. We try very hard to be kind and respectful as anything we say or do to upset them might make things difficult for little Sis. We come for visits and are treated like animals. Is this standard?

Some people who work in prisons, but thankfully not many, are sadistic bullys who greatly enjoy messing with people who can't fight back. It is their perfect job, but I always told myself I had just dealt with an AH and if I continued to let their behavior bother me, I would be making them even happier. They are violating their own institution rules, but it is almost impossible for an inmate to prevail against a guard in any situation.
