Proxy is when you get married without him being present. yall have a proxy there with you solely to tell the judge that yes, "the groom" has expressed that he does want to marry "the wife" The proxy can be male or female and they are not taking the grooms place, they are only to answer that question i mentioned and to sign the marriage license. In texas you have to get a form from where ever you get a marriage licens, its an application to marry by proxy for incarcerated. You will have to send it to him, they are only good for 30 days so if its going to be longer tell him not to date it. When you get it back, you take that, his id or a certified copy of his Birth certificate and your id, to get a marriage license. The proxy does not have to be present for that but make sure you have the correct spelling of your proxy's name since it's listed on the marriage license, (along with yours and your husbands), then you wait 72 hrs, you can make your appt with the JP in the meantime, then at your appt with the JP,make sure to take your marriage license, your id, your proxy is present and they have their id. It takes like 2 minutes. That's it. Good luck...
