Default Questions regarding Phone Services we can use

Does anyone know if it is OK to use sites like conscallhome.com? I know in sheridan back in 09 some of the men where put in the SHU for using sites like that, is it agaisnt their policy to use these types of sites? I don't want to put my husband at risk in anyway

Yes, it is against BOP policy to use companies like conscallhome - any company that gives a local number for the inmate to use that is not YOUR number. That's call forwarding and not allowed.

You can just get a cell phone and either change your number or add a line to your service that has a number local to the prison's zip code (area code and prefix) and then when the inmate calls, it's only 90 cents for a 15 minute call.

Mrs Texas -
I am sorry to tell you but it is true. It is 100% againts policy - regardless of what the inmate may say and regardless of what the company may say. Some of these companies have been sued by the govt for claiming that they are 'approved' by the BOP. So while you may have it and use it - you use it at the risk of the inmate getting in trouble for it. You may be lucky and he never gets caught - but this is something that the BOP actively looks for and investigate. As Zelda said, the best option is getting a cell phone with a local number. Any company that provides you with a local number and/or forwards a call from a local number to your home phone of cell phone is against policy.

I saw somewhere that if you get an area code and prefix to where the inmate is, that it would be .90 for 15 minutes, is that the same for Federal Prisons?

The BOP frowns upon any form of call forwarding. If call forwarding is found out, it can be cause to lose phone privileges.

Yes, it is the same for Federal....Just change your cell phone number....My number has changed several times, due to him getting transferred, but better safe than sorry....
