Default Intro- otherone

My fiancé has just been sentenced to 55 months minimal security. I'm so sad they denied my visitation application. Does anyone know if I can marry him in there? Would I be able to visit him then? I am a co-defendant and I'm on probation. I sent in an appeal to the denial. I'm also appealing his whole sentence. Please if anyone has info for me please message back. I'm so lonely without him. Even with good time they say he won't get out till 8/2015! It's only been a month now and it was the longest month ever. all that time is just for pot. And I was legal for a portion of it

First of all, welcome to PrisonTalk! Sorry it's under these circumstances, but that is how a lot of us ended up here. With the history you have, a denial on your original visiting application was pretty much automatic. But don't give up yet, you said you appealed it. What did you send in for them to consider as extenuating circumstances? Did you include a letter from your probation officer saying he agreed with you being able to visit?

It is possible to win a visitation appeal, I thought I had a long shot and was eventually approved (now if I could just get there...) Other people on here have had similar experiences. I don't think you can marry him while he is locked up until you get the visiting problem resolved tho'.

Is he still in reception? Is there any possibility that he might qualify for the AIP program cuz that could reduce his sentence somewhat. It might be something for him to check into.

Hang in there, I won't say it gets easier but it does become your reality and as my huband says it is what it is, we just have to deal with our situation. Please feel free to ask any questions about anything or if you just want to vent. My husband has been down 1 1/2 years and has another 4 1/2 to go and it's a Measure 11 case so no chance of good time. Until you get the visiting fixed you can still write and have phone calls, which I guess is better than not..... trust me I do know how you feel....

TLA, I did provide my Probation officers name and number, he did say he would give his permission. I also provided the name of drug treatment I have successfully completed and I even offered to do more community service to show even further I have and want change. I hope if I ever win visitation rights, I hope it's not only through the glass? Im so terribly sad, they moved him all the way to snake river that is an 8.5 hour drive from me and all his friends. I doubt anyone will travel that far to visit him. Except me, if I win visitation. Thanks for all your help and info.

When you get approved for visiting, it probably will be through glass for the first year. That is what I'm approved for at the moment. Hey, it's better than nothing, altho' I have yet to make it there due to transportation and money issues. No car and it is a 9-10 hour trip for me too. Good luck!!

Are you a co-defendant? On probation? Or a felon? Did you appeal a denied visitation request? How long did your appeal letter take to be approved?? I have so many questions? How long has your man been at snake river? Is he medium or minimum? Have you heard about heart of the dove trips to snake river?

I'm on probation for a felony drug conviction (long story), not a co-defendent with my husband. We were originally denied on visitation and appealed and it took a couple of months for them to approve our appeal which is for basic (behind glass) visits for at least the first year. When we appealed, I sent a letter explaining why I should be granted an exception, my otherwise clean record, health problems, only family he has etc. and sent that along with letters from my probation officer, the drug counselor I was required to see, my doctor etc. Was told by some people that it was a long shot, but like a wise man told me, if you don't ask the answer is always no..... And at least in my case, (and others I know of) it worked! I think when it gets to the appeal stage, they look at them as a case by case basis.

My husband has been at Snake River for about 8 months, he was at Two Rivers before that. He is medium custody and works at the call center there. He is doing really good, considering where he is.

I have heard of the Heart of the Dove program, but it only goes from Portland and Salem and I'm in Southern Oregon, so it isn't a solution for me. Sounds like a great answer if you live in the right area though.

Hope this answers your questions, let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Just remember to take things one day at a time and hang in there!

Thanks so much for all That info, now I'm wishing i had included a letter from my PO, I only included his number and said if they called him he would give his permission. I'm praying I will get to visit him one day. 3.5 years without seeing his smile , sounds like a sad 3.5 years glass visits sound really sad too but I guess better than not seeing him. Thanks again
