Unbelievable. My husband is at Lieber too, but not in the dorm where it happened. I guess this means I can kiss visitation goodbye for this weekend. The inmates that cause the incidences like these are selfish in their behavior.

I'm sorry, but it is no surprise this happened in Ashley. Go figure they were able to "overpower the guards." Not everyone in Ashley is bad, but that dorm seems to cause 99.9% of the problems at Lieber. As soon as they come off lockdown, certain inmates in there do something stupid that screws things up for everyone.

I just read that this morning and thought of you. I am glad to hear it wasn't your husbands dorm. That sucks that a few idiots that cannot control themselves ruin it for all the other inmates and their families as well.

I hope by some miracle that you are able to visit this weekend.

I just saw this on the news and my heart sank. I don't live in the part of the state where Lieber is located, so we didn't get this information on the news until this morning. If I know the SCDC trend well, Ashley dorm could lose it's visitation privelages for at least a year. No this isn't fair to those who have loved ones there trying to do there time and move on.

I am glad it wasn't his dorm too, but I am seriously sick of these idiots behaving in a manner that is self-serving. What they don't realize is that they are not going to accomplish anything by doing it anyway, so what's the point? Even though his dorm wasn't involved, Lieber officials believe in group punishment so everyone will suffer for those inmates' actions and no one knows for how long. Lieber has been known to lock them down for a month or more at a time while things are "investigated." The SCDC spokesman made a comment they have the "worst of the worst" there so it's only natural violent things will happen. My husband is not the "worst of the worst" and I resent such an ignorant comment being made.

3rd time must be the charm. Again I had to contact his mother and inform her that this weekend's visit is off. Yes, my love has been in the Ashley dorm since he was transferred there and I know all to well of the ills of it.

First we must not make assumptions about what happened last night. The only thing I could think of was Lee Correctional and the incident that occurred there years ago. I wish this didn't happen, yet it has. I'm thankful no one lost their life physically yet you must understand these men who feel the need to react this way have no one and feel this way of life isn't worth it. Many cannot cope being in that cage, regardless of the crimes they've committed it takes a certain mental discipline to get through time at DOC.

Our loved ones are the exception and fortunate for us. For the first time I've heard him describe the situation he's in as animalistic and he's been around SCDC long enough to see, hear, and know it all. Not that the spokesperson has aright to make that comment, but she has to dramatize an already ugly situation. Truth is, next to a few others I know all too well, Lieber is one of the toughest place to do time. Does that make everyone there the scum of the earth; no you and I know that very few inmates are housed in SCDC level institutions that suit their crime because of overcrowding yet Joe and Jane Public don't. They view our loved ones in the same perspective as that spokesperson. We're their lifeline, not the SCDC whose motto is more fiction than fact.

My prayer this day that all of the men in Ashley dorm are recovering well from the tear gas (no one mentioning that being harmful), aren't punished for the few who created this mess, yet as you've stated that will not be the case. Lieber was already understaffed and this "riot" doesn't help matters.

Instead of holding someone I haven't touched in nearly 18 months, I'll wait for the call to say we're off lockdown, when can y'all come for a visit? I've learned to take the bitter with the sweet.

All I care about right now is hearing his voice and knowing he is OK. If I can get to that point, I will be happy. My fear is they will lock them down for some indeterminate amount of time and we I won't hear from him for a long while. This week was the worst week for this to happen for me. When I need his support the most, I can't get it.

I called this morning and I'm sure they'll be on lockdown for some time. It may be more than a week before we get any phone calls from our loved ones but knowing him, he's already written to tell me not to worry No one should have to endure this but I only trust & believe in God and not much else these days.

The entire institution is still on lockdown, so visitation for the weekend will be cancelled.

Btw I don't read comments posted regarding any news articles national/local. If individuals were required to use their government name, many would refrain from making ignorant comments. It's a shame for a country with so many freedoms we fail well below the tribal nations we look down upon.

Amen to that. I read these comments and am ashamed of these people.

Wow I wasn't aware of this situation. I hope you here from your lo soon. It's so scary what they're forced to go through. Everyone makes mistakes.
