Default HB2648 Bring our LO's home

Just got this e-mail.... I will do whatever I can to make sure this house bill passes. Please pass this on to everyone....

Dear Friend of Criminal Justice Reform:

During the last few months I have received a number of petitions from change.org including your request, asking to revisit and approve Arizona’s HB2648. HB2648 was last year's version of a bill which I introduced, which would have established incentives for inmates to earn early release credits for good behavior. The bill died in committee last year.

I have re-introduced HB2648 this legislative session - it has a new number. The NEW bill number for this year is HB2521 community supervision; earned release credits. You can see the bill HYPERLINK "http://www.azleg.gov/DocumentsForBill.asp? Bill_Number=2521&Session_Id=107ℑ.x=7ℑ. y=7"here.

It has been assigned to the Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee (MAPS Committee). The Committee Chairman is Representative David Gowan. The Chairman has the power to decide whether or not a bill will be heard in his committee. If a chairman does not calendar a bill, it will die in committee and never even be heard by our representatives so they can decide for themselves the merits of a given bill. Gowan will need to decide in the next few days whether or not to hear this bill which has been assigned to his committee:

The Maps Committee meets every Wednesday, and its last day to hear bills will be on February 15. If it is not calendared before that last date, it will not be heard and it will "die in committee." PLEASE EMAIL TODAY and explain why this bill is important to you and why it should be heard.

Below are the names of those serving on the committee. I encourage you to advise these members, and particularly the chairman, of your interest in having this bill heard.

Please do not forward this email as part of your request. Emails are most effective when personalized and brief.

Thank you for your interest in this subject, and thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Cecil Ash
