I don't know. I would highly doubt it tho. The "hole" is usually very restricted as to what they can have.

I'm sorry to hear that, conmil! I don't think they can get books in the hole, but I don't have any experience with Fort Dodge. Hang in there, hon.

I was wondering what the mail limits are for Ft. Dodge. I just recently started writing an inmate there and I wanted to know what all we can send. I know I sent him my manuscript earlier this month and he recieved that.

Iowa inmates can receive print offs from the internet, paperwork, cards, coloring pages, and photographs through the mail. You can send books, but they must be packaged and shipped by the bookseller. As far as what kind of photographs they will allow... that probably depend on the facility, and I'm not familiar with Fort Dodge. Anamosa is very strict about hand signs of any kind (even salutes?!) and excessive skin (etc.). We also cannot send calendars. My bf was recently denied a magazine because it had a calendar in it. He appealed it and they still said he couldn't have it.

Some facilities don't allow photocopies of handwritten pages?

I never had any issues with mail at all in Ft. Dodge. Also, I sent Tony calendars when he was in Anamosa & never had any issues. maybe it depends on who is doing mail. The rules say NOTHING about not being able to have calendars. But, I haven't dealt with anamosa in 4 years. Things change.

Yeah, he wrote a short story, sent it to me, I made a photocopy which I sent back with the original. They wouldn't let him have the photocopy, he had to send it back or have it destroyed.

That sounds very strange. Did they give a reason for it?

LOL I love their "cuz I say so" reasons. I wanna know what the harm is in it.

I think the only reason they can't have calendars is because they can buy them from canteen.

Maybe next time you can type it for him.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'm going to try to send a couple books to him for his birthday next month.
