Default Current info on "levels" inside IA facilities

I have a question regarding "levels" at CCF or any other Iowa facilities. I have seen where you all talk about your LO's being a level 3 or a 4 or whatever. I tried to look it up on state websites and I couldn't find it. My LO said he was classified as a level 3. I have no idea really what that means. He said he can get to a level 4 if he is a good boy for 4 months..... can anyone give me a quick pitch on what the levels mean? Are they the same in all the facilities in Iowa? LO told me it can mean more visits from the family but he didn't know what else happens. Thanks for helping me!

It just means more privileges. I think they get one more visit a month and can request a 3-hour visit (which doesn't always happen on weekends). They also get a monthly meal from the outside like Pizza Hut, McDonalds and cook-outs in the summer. I can't remember if there's anything else.

That is better than a swift kick in the pants.... but not much! I didn't know if they get moved to different units or cells. Do they have access to programs or parts of the facility they didn't have before? Do the CO's treat them any differently? LOL I know--probably not but just had to ask.

Where my guy is, changes in levels mean more privileges. They get more, longer visits, and are able to come and go from their cell more often. They are moved to different units which have more perks... Go up a level, get a cell with air conditioning. Go up another level, get a 1-man cell. The unit changes don't happen as soon as the increase in visits, because there are other factors involved (space, time left on your sentence, etc).

No, it doesn't change cells or anything like that. They don't have 1-person cells at CCF. I think most of them are 4-man rooms.

It doesn't affect their treatment by COs either. Some of them are ok there, but there are some not-nice ones too

So more info about levels I asked my man about the levels in FDCF... It basically goes from level one being the least amount of time out of the cell to level 5 being the most amount of time out of the cell.

My LO is in FDCF and there are 6 levels. Level 3 is the introduction level, where most everyone coming in starts. Below level 3 is solitary and trouble inmates. Level 6 is the highest and typically takes a year to achieve including no reports and positive work reviews. Level 5 can babysit dogs, and have more freedom then 4 and 3. Depending on your level, depends on what building you are in. # of visits and length of visits are not affected. They take levels away pretty quickly for any report so some are constantly bouncing between level 3 & 4. Level 3 has to wear the brown jumpsuits. Hope this helps. It seems that every facility has different rules and guidelines.
