Default Wedding In (Federal) Prison

A civil wedding is arranged through Visits and Correspondence. The inmate must make the request through their parole officer. The parole officer initiates the process. Inmates are responsible for all cost (marriage license etc.). Wedding takes place at V&C with bride and groom present and two witnesses.

Religious Weddings are done under the direction of the chaplain by the chaplain or an outside clergy. Fees are paid by inmate (marriage license etc.) and the couple must take part in all marriage preparation courses as set out by the chaplain or outside clergy person. If you have specific questions PM me.

Default Wedding

Hi. How long does it usually take to get approved? We are planning to be married, and I think maybe its easier for lifers to get approved? He is doing a short bit, so I am worried they won't make it a priority.

Thanks for the info.

I was talking to my boy friend about this and he said that his PO said that you're not allowed to get married in federal prison any more. Is this true? Does anyone have an recent experience? Should he be pushing his PO to dig?

Nope, not true. He can always talk to the chaplain for more info, or talk to the officers at V&C as that is where the wedding will take place. They cant stop you from getting married, they can just make it difficult.
If PO continues to say no, ask him/her to back up the statement with policy info

I was just married in April. They didn't help us at all. I found my own officiants & called the Chaplin at the institution and had to keep calling to get a date set. You have to be on top of them. If they say they will call you back they won't call them. Its a long process and can be extremely frustrating at times but it most definitely still allowed. Hope this helps , any other questions feel free to pm! Good luck!

Thank you so much for your information!!!

Now the next question, did you have to pay anything? Did you get a "honey moon" PFV after?

You dont have to pay CSC anything, but you still have to purchase a marriage liscence and pay for the officiant. And, you could possibly get a PFV after, if you have been approved, and have set it up like a regular PFV, ie paid for food, 2 weeks notice etc. Just getting married does not entitle you to a PFV right after, nor does it speed up the approval process for the PFV.
Depending on the institution you are getting married in, you should also be able to order food for the wedding, and have guests as well (so long as they are on the approved visiting list) I think this info is in a CD somewhere, just havent looked lately
