Default Have you tried the 14 day manicure?

I was at the nail salon last week get my refill (acrylic nails) and their were 2 ladies there getting the new 14 day manicure treatment. By the time they left their nails were completely dry and they didn't worry about messing them up. One lady even said because the polish doesn't leaves mark on paper that this was the first time she'd been able to get a color instead of a french manicure in years because of her job. I thought it was a pretty cool product and the end result was very pretty.

Has anyone tried it? What did you think?

Hmmm I've not tried it ben's girl but I get gel nails and have never had any problems not being dry out the door or leaving color on paper etc. Actually mine stay nice longer than necessary.

I never heard of this. But I get gel nails, and like Patty's, mine stay nice for quite awhile, especially when the gel is put on top of my designs.

I think it's also called Shellac (sp).

I did get it, and it lasted past 14 days. I don't remember what they are calles, but it looks amazing. It was more expensive (35.00) than the acrylic, but I really enjoyed having them.

Yes, BG, it is the Shellac manicure.
I was getting shellac manicures for several months and based on my experience, I'll give you my Pros and the Cons:

Pros
- This is a polish. No sculpting or filling, just thin coats of polish on your natural nail, with a brief time for curing under a UV lamp.
- Super quick drying
- Polish stays on, chip-free, for weeks. It really does.
- Polish stays shiny (doesn't dull) unless you really abuse your hands/nails with cleaners and the like.
- Polish works as a strengther
- I spent a week at the ocean but you never would have known it by looking at my nails. Salt water usually destroys my nails - not this time.

Cons
- The price is much higher than a basic manicure. Average shellac manicure cost in Michigan is $30 - $45.
- Polish removal requires soaking in a very strong acetone.
- Forget about doing your nails yourself. You can't just buy a bottle and take it home. Without the UV lamp, polish will not properly set.
- Your "manicure" will look terrible if you don't keep maintenance up with your nail growth (Circle back to the price).

Where am I at with my shellac manicure today? I love them! But I had to give up this luxury last week due because of our current financial situation. Actually, I was in need of a "polish change" three weeks ago but finally had to do it myself this past weekend. My nails don't look real swell today. I soaked them in acetone for 20 minutes yesterday and still couldn't get all of the polish off. I needed to gently take an emery board to the resistant spots to fully remove. The acetone left my nails very very, thin. Hopefully, the nail strengthner I used afterwards will help.

Would I do it again?
- Yes, I'd keep up with it on an ongoing maitenance basis if I could afford it.
- Yes, if I had a really special extended (over four days) event coming up and I wanted my nails to look great and didn't want to worry about chips, splits or broken nails.

I've never heard of this but it sounds great. Might have to look into it. I did just recently try the Sally Hansen nail strips and couldnt believe how easy it was to do and how nice they look. I'm definitely a fan now

WOW! At the price! I think the lady at my nail place said it was $25. Just goes to show you the difference in the prices around the country.
