Default Offer for YOS in Pueblo...good or bad?

My son has been sitting in Weld County jail since two days before Christmas. He has a great public defender who is working very hard for him. The DA has offered that he serve 6 years at YOS in Pueblo with the understanding that if he messes up he will be looking at 12 in DOC.

Has anyone had experience with a loved one at YOS? My son also has a mood disorder so we are concerned that he may not get the medications he needs.

Any info gratefully appreciated.

YOS is actually across the street from the state mental hospital (i believe) so they are trained to handle mental, physical and emotional disorders. Yos is better than DOC in terms of the care.

YOS has some problems with fish (newbies) getting beat up and/or subject to extortion but it's still a major improvement over the other CDOC facilities. Educational programs are easier to get into because they are mandated, family involvement is easier (think "parent picnics") and Level III involves going back into the community. I'm not sure what the downside would be to going to YOS -- is the proposed sentence longer?

Default YOS Pueblo

We had been warned about the "initiation" fighting, but at 6'5" and 225 lb he says he can handle that. He is not a gang banger and will be sure that everybody knows he is not interested.

His sentence offers are 6 years at YOS or 8-12 in DOC. Considering that he can get treatment and counseling and take classes, YOS seems like the better choice.
