Default A Prison of My Own Making

A Prison of My Own Making

Beat up and constantly shaking,
Terrorized and frozen with fear.
He said he was my warden
Who destroyed what I held dear.

He call me names and made me
feel bad about myself.
He told me he would hurt me
If I refused to prostrate myself.

He beat me down to teach me
That he was in control.
But then I knew that one day
Leaving would be my goal.

I released myself from my prison
For I had finally seen:
I was always the Captain of MY ship.
That's the way it's always been.
With Love,

Michele
