The victim's family want to meet Marcus:
Yet the couple’s journey is less about justice and more about the healing power of forgiveness and their Christian faith. In an unusual gesture, they hope to meet with Druery before his execution to offer him their forgiveness.

A competency hearing has been denied.
"Although he's been hearing voices for years, believes that he and his cell on Texas' death row are "wired," and has spent a significant amount of time in the prison system's psychiatric ward, a judge in Brazos County today denied to hold a competency hearing to determine if Marcus Druery is indeed sane enough to die."

mammastalkin, do you yourself believe Marcus Druery is incompetent to be executed due to the state of his mental health?

I have to say, after reading several articles (including the one you cited) for and against Mr. Druery's competence re: his impending execution, I am unsure....although it sadly means Mr. Druery has few if any avenues at all left to avoid his impending execution on 1 August 2012

Yes, love, I do believe he is too mentally ill to be executed. I belive this from what I've read, and heard. Prisoners on D/R don't go to the pysch hospital unless they are very sick. You don't fake shcizophrenia in that 24/7 environment. I also have friends that know him and tell me is mentally ill and over medicated. One told me he lays in bed all day and eats candy. Day after day.
Shouldn't his competency at least be evaluated? Shouldn't the court want to be certain that his rights are protected? I think so. And he still might get a stay. We'll have to see what the next court does with it.

Yes,mammastalkin, Marcus Druery's competency should be evaluated properly; Judge Lansley should have granted the request to hold a hearing.

I have noticed that quite a few people on Texas death row have significant mental health problems of some type....particularly the inmates who have had long stays on Texas death row (i.e. 20 years or more).

What a cynical and misanthropic statement from the judge.

I hope and pray for Mr. Druery.

It's a stay!!

"Marcus Druery (DREW'-ree) was to be executed Aug. 1, but the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled Friday that it needed to review a motion Druery filed earlier this month on whether he was mentally competent."

Reading this or other statements of judge staff relating to executions I always suspect they might have the ultimate mental disorder ever.
