What's the first thought that goes through your head when you wake up in the morning? What if your only purpose here on earth was to fight for equal rights and justice for an inmate at Polunsky Unit? This is really getting to me now...

i wake up thinking the same thing!!...its hard isnt it! i know a few of the inmates at polunsky! god i wana save them all...xx

I think it is important to realize that you can only support someone in the long run if you take good care of yourself and your own happiness. Yes, there is a lot of injustice, no, you can't help everybody. First make sure you're good to yourself so you have the energy and spirit that you need for the fight.

I'm with Nenia on this one; over the years I have seen many many people burn out emotionally, financially, spiritually, physically, you name it. You need to look after yourself in every way possible as their need is so huge it is so easy to give too much. If not, you'll just be 'another one of those who drops their pal after a year or 2'.
This is what no one intends to be when they start out, and please do not take this the wrong way.
Those that I have seen do this for the long haul are all people who have a good strong support system. So get one. You may find friends here, or maybe back home. Whatever it is you need for YOU, DO IT!

It's easy to get swept up in the emotion and let it consume you. Trust me. I did it with my first pen pal. Every now and again I will get like that now with my guy, but I can't let it. I have a household to run, a child to take care of and a job I need to keep. Sure, I'll get in a funk every once in a while but who doesn't?

Talk it out with him too! I let my guy know how much it was affecting me emotionally and he is the one who calmed me down.

We're all here for you if you ever need to vent it out!

I'm glad you found PTO. Make sure you take time for yourself. It is easy to become so wrapped up with your friend that you forget about your own life. But you can't fall into that trap or you're going to be very stressed. You can always come here for a boost!!
