I can't tell you what a relief it was to come across this at this very moment. I had recently sent some info to him about wotanism which is an addititin of odinism. I haven't heard from him & was worried that they wouldn't accept that info for him & I asked him if it was safe to send & he just said to try. After 3 nights past the night he said he would call I was getting a little concerned. ggrrrrr after 3 1/2 yrs of waiting for mail & phone calls youd think I'd be over the worry.....

Default About the Conception of Death

I haven't been paying attention lately, nor have I been on this site to often. But just recently finding out that Mrs. D had passed from MidgarðR earlier this year. Mrs. D will always be remembered fondly, and the deeds that she performed in this life will not go unsung. That being said I think that this is a time that I shall leave a link for any whom may be interested in the ancient ways that Mrs. D and the other Odinist/Ásatrúar follow, and ours and our ancestors thoughts on death. I place this out of the love and respect that I gave to my fellow heathen sister. May the road be swift and ways unhindered my sister. Wassail Mrs. D !!!
NOTE: The Northern Indo-European word Hel is not the same place as the Biblical one.

I noticed there has been no action on this thread in quite sometime. My husband is odinistic and I came across this thread when I googled Odinism. I was actually quite surprised.

Thank you for sharing that, I found it interesting.

Question for you...I know that, unfortunately, there are some white supremacists that claim to practice Asatru but have taken the beliefs and twisted them around for their own prejudice beliefs....; now, if I'm not mistaken, I've read before that Asatru does not state that any race is superior to another race, correct? Unfortunately, I know that Asatru is often labeled as a STG because of the white supremacists. So...what would you recommend/suggest could be done to try to correct people's views of Asatru (both that of the white supremacists that twist it to fit their views, so that they can no longer do so...and that of the guards, so that it hopefully would be removed as a STG)?

I hope my question made sense. I don't practice Asatru, so my knowledge is very limited...however, I hate when any religion is taken and twisted around to be something hateful/hurtful of others when that is not it really teaches.

Yes it is unfortunate that the (as I call them) loud-mouthed, slope foreheaded, knuckle-draggers hanging onto a failed ideology such as racial supremacy, seem to drag down the actual true spiritual essence that is Odinism/Ásatrú. Thus the guards, not knowing, throw all of them up as an STG.
The way to battle this is to contact the chain of command and the chaplains with copies of material that is from established Odinist/Ásatrú (organizations or 'churches'). Sometimes if a few members, that keep their noses clean (no real serious write-ups) actually join one of these orgs, they can have a legitimate foothold, as long as they remain in the onward and upward spiritual mindset and path in life. There are things that the guys can do as a Kindred/Hearth that will also set them apart. Like for instance, after blót or meeting and time allows with the yard guards ok, each get a trash bag and clean the entire yard. Now this may not sound like much, but it not only has a social aspect, but to the heathen a spiritual one as well. They would be cleaning their small part of Midgard (what we call earth). I don't know of any group religious or other that would do this. But this small act of kindness to the Mother earth (Jorth) herself, will speak volumes to those in charge. Especially if it is done on a regular basis, like after their meetings.

I agree with you that those that twist a religions teaching for their own sorted hate, are completely missing the point of the given mythology that they are supposed to be upholding. Again these people generally are not looking to better themselves or to help others, but rather use a belief system as a platform to mask their own hate speech. And unfortunately this can be done with ANY religion.

Sadly, I do know that people can do this to any religion (twist it and use it for hate), and it does occur. I guess, because I see how a handful of Muslims that are not truly practicing the religion affects the view others have of all Muslims, I can relate and it saddens me.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will keep them in mind.

Another q...how popular do you feel Asatru is in the female vs the male prisons?

One of my future goals is to become a Muslim Chaplain at a women's prison...and I know that means I would have to work with inmates of various faiths. This is why I asked about what can be done in re: to Asatru being listed as a STG.

Thanks for all you share!

My apologies in the delay, I no longer have net access at home so I have to pack up the laptop and hike a couple of miles to the nearest public library to get online.
To be quite honest, I am not sure. Sometimes the women just don't know about it. But there is a extremely viable place in the ancient ways of the Northern Indo-European spirituality. Back in the day, woman had the same voting and other rights that a man had. To the Northern Indo-European there was no difference other then one was male the other was female. For reference http://www.asatru.ca/img/Asatru%20-%...Religion-a.pdf
The only thing I can think of if there is a lack in the woman's prisons, is that we do not actively seek to convert anyone.
Good luck in your quest to become a Muslim chaplain. I can verify that the only one that actually did his job to an exemplified level was the Imam where I was at. We got stopped at every turn by the Catholic father and Protestant minister.
