I've heard it on & off, but I don't really believe it.... the state has nowhere to house those inmates. And anyways it would take them a while to implimate such a thing.

Myself and others on this forum have heard the same thing.

The sgt. could be not telling you the truth on purpose, perhaps they have been instructed to answer this big rumor that way. Just think of the panic with all GEO's loosing their jobs and all the family of these inmates wondering and wanting answers as to where their loved ones will go?

He told me the GEO's are talking about that they have to find new jobs period. In a recent visit one geo told me they are transferring higher level inmates there. So, perhaps they are closing it temporarily to modify the prison for higher level inmates (such as higher security cells and whatnot) to help the overcrowding of state prisons? Or to me they could be shutting these down completely since the private prisons cost the most AND offer the poorest life quality for inmates, both supporting democratic policy (D-Brown) plus it keeps the state workers union happy, so instead of cutting state union workers they cut GEO's?

I'm keeping up with the local news in Orange County and it seems our lawmakers are in a quandry on how to handle this. I have not read anything about any facilities closing. Orange County is expecting approx. 1,300 inmates and some jails can accommate beds, but not the dollars. Jerry Brown is still trying to pass taxes to help with costs. I also read where jails have been accommodating Federal inmates which pays the county a hefty sum; which I imagine the county doesn't want to lose. Various suggestions, this only applies to non-violent offenders, may be put on an ankle bracelet. I'm also in question of where and when this will all happen as the Supreme Court has given a 2 year time frame to get this done. Our lawmakers seem to be scrambling with answers of how to handle this now ~ a little disturbing seeing it is well known the Supreme Court would have an answer to uphold or deny this decision by June this year. The question of increased taxes for Orange County will be put on the ballot for the voters to decide.....that's another issue with the economy today. I doubt if I answered your question, but maybe this post will give some insight. We'll just keep the faith and hope our loved ones will soon be home!!! AMEN!

So the rumor sounds true afterall (assuming the media has it right, and that's certainly not always the case) so it looks like 4 mccf's are being closed.

It says inmates will go to county jail but if the state cannot get the funding then they are the state's problem.

Default Media regarding closing Golden State and Central Valley MCCF's

http://www.turnto23.com/north_county...04/detail.html

Above is an article and news video link saying Golden State and Central Valley MCCF's are closing. Keep in mind that Leo Chesney CCF (female one in Live Oak) and Lassen CCF (Susanville) have also had recent news releases saying they too are closing.

It sounds like it is pending AB109. Although my opinion is that they will shut down the ones in McFarland either way as Brown is backing the prison/CO union and both these facilities are run by GEO Group. So if they are going to shut down some prisons (for budget reasons) to save money OR to shut them down and renovate them for higher level inmates to help with State overcrowding it makes sense that they do this regardless of AB109 receiving the necessary funding or not.

Where the guys go....well that is not mentioned. Some stuff online suggests out of state (that doesn't make sense though, too short of remaining actual time) or perhaps county (although it sounds like AB109 is not going to transfer current inmates to county).
I've heard the ones that are not paroling within closing will be mainlined to nearby state prisons (obviously level 1 & II yards only).
So ladies what have you heard?

What I dont understand is if the media is saying the close of these two facilities is in alignment of AB109 and inmates in these facilities will go to local city facilities and programs...why does AB109 say it only affects inmates who enter the system after July 2011? It contradicsts AB109 I thought it was understood that AB109 only pertains to anyone entering the system after July 2011. I am concerned I have a son in one of these facilities with about 6 months left to go on his term doesnt make sense to move inmates with very minimal time to complete.

I've heard the same and have been posting about it. My man also says they are closing all MCCF's and CCF's. Look at some of the media posts I put up. The media says (and CDCR confirms Lassen CCF on their site) between two articles that Leo Chesney, Golden State, Central Valley and Desert View (all MCCF's, well I think Leo is, it's a female one outside of Santa Cruz) are all being closed down.

My guy says the rumor is that they are going to close some within 2-3 months and going to mainline them to state prison or they will parole and whatever guys are left over will go to the couple of MCCF's/CCF's that are remaining open a few months longer. In his dorm there haven't been any new guys for over a week now, that's not normal, so actions seem to prove this rumor to be true. We will see though. To me if the state facilities are over capacity they should be sending some of those guys to the empty beds of the CCF's and MCCF's (there are empty beds, have been for months per my guy) and not shutting these facilities down.

Thank you for the info. I was just wondering because his actual release date is Sept 17, 2011. And also because of the supreme court rulings I was wondering if he was possibly getting out earlier then I expect.......

That would be nice, but I wouldn't hold your breath on him getting out sooner. Although mid September is just around the corner
You just know California will do what they can to stall this measure. They do have to get their plan submitted, I think, within 45 days from now. But no doubt they will request an extension on when they actually need to apply it. That's my guess. If I were you I would just keep on top of looking at the cdcr site.
Best of luck to you!

Oh and here is the quote from the media bit on Lassen CCF, here it actually mentions Delano closing
"Other jail facilities effected by the CCF contracts not being renewed are Coalinga and Delano.

Growdon said Delano will be the first one to close because it was the first to open 20 years ago"

here's the link to the article....

I've heard from several different ppl. My husband said he also heard it from one of the workers at Mcfarland.... If this is true, when does this take effect?

I know this thread is a little outdated but, my fiancee is in Golden State right now and he said the GEO's have been confirming that Golden State will be closed by June. When I called, no one would answer my questions. Has anyone heard anything new since last May?
