Default End to D/P in CT likely

"If the vote passes and is signed into law by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, existing death penalty cases would be unaffected. For future cases the death penalty would no longer be an option."

Great news but it would have been better to completly abolish it and make available to those currently on death row.

They purposely waited until after the trials of Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky before they did this. They're never going to make it retroactive.

California would make it retro active to all 700 inmates. It's funny all states that abolished the dp made it retro that's sad for all who involved and more then likely they will see to the execution being carried out.

yeah, that was a specific concern in last week's vote. Hope they sober up and realize that LWOP is death. The only execution in CT in the last 50 years was a fellow who dropped his appeals - obviously CT isn't interested in actually killing anybody (thank God), so make it retroactive. What's the harm? AND it'll cost less to make it retroactive than to go forward with it for those already sentenced to death.

If it passes in Cali, they really have no choice but to make it retroactive. Cali has 700+ people sitting on the row now. CT has 11. It would take years and lots of money for Cali to get all those folks through their appeals and execute them, and one of their arguments for abolishing the DP is cost. CT doesn't care one way or the other. It's got some guys it doesn't like on DR.
