Thumbs up Danvan from Wisconsin

as a father who never dreamed that someday I would be typing on a Prison form, I find it hard not to cry with every touch of a key. Mt son of 16 was just waved into adult court and I've never had to deal with something so hard. I hope someday this will be easier. 49 and crying everyday is horrible, He's facing buthopefully wont get 40 yrs.

Welcome to the parents forum and to PTO, Danvan. I think we all remember that awful time when our kids first got into legal trouble. The heartbreak and pain that you feel will get better in time but it won't completely go away until your son is back at home with you. The good thing is that you've found us so early on your journey with your son. We can provide you with support, understanding and information because we've all been there.

You might also want to check out the Wisconsin forum at some point That's where you would find information about the prison system there.

I hope you'll come back often and post whenever you like. There is always someone here to listen. There are a number of parents here who's children were still minors when they were arrested but, in reality, it doesn't matter as much how old they were because they are all still our children and it still hurts. If you need any assistance feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help you find your way around PTO. Once again, welcome. I'm sorry for the reason that brought you here but I'm so glad we're here to help you. I know I wouldn't have made it this far if not for the wonderful folks here that helped me when I first arrived. Sending you a big hug and prayers for you and your son....Niki

I am so sorry for what you are going through Danvan. I have not stopped crying either but I know this is the right place to vent. Sentencing teenagers as adults is morally wrong and not allowed in most "civilized" societies. The way the United States "justice" treats our children and mentally ill is condemned by many major human rights groups including the United Nations.

I will hold you and your son in my thoughts.

I am so sorry for your tragedy. I agree that is morally wrong to be treating these children as adults. Their brains are chemically different and they simply do not have the tools with which to make adult decisions.`My son had just turned 18 when he made the choice that has kept him away from us for almost 6 years now, and gave him a 48year sentence. I hope that you find some comfort here at PTO and know that neither you or your son will be judged here.

In the old testament the age of accountability is age 20. I totally agree that these young people should not be treated as adults. My friends and some family told me when my son got in jail "hes a man, he made his decision" he was and still is far from being a man....he is a young man, still and an adolescent. I think these detectives and judges get a thrill from sending young boys to prison. i use to have respect for the justice system but after dealing with them for the past few years, I have no respect for none of them.
