Secularism refers to the world outside of religion. Actually more specifically, a world that rejects religion and its teachings. We live in a secular world Where did you hear it?

From what I have read, secularism is when someone, or a group does not believe in any type of religious doctrine and believes that it should not be a part of education or political issues.

Peace~

Secularism*is the principle of separation between government institutions and the persons mandated to represent the State from*religious institutions*and*religious dignitaries.*

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secularism

I think its a very important thing to main in a democratic country such as the US. Why do you ask?

Mrs. Cetina gave you the right answer. It means that a particular religious text doesn't run our government, not the Koran, the Talmud, the Upanishads or the Bible.

It may also properly be true for a personal life. I live a secular life, not going to worship anywhere, not concerned with the idea of some sort of punishment from any form of god.

Secularism -- at it's very core is a separation between Church and State. It does NOT, in any way, have anything to do with an individual's personal religious beliefs.

I feel the need to repeat that... IT DOES NOT, IN ANY WAY, HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH AN INDIVIDUAL'S PERSONAL RELIGIOUS BELIEFS.
