Default Convicted murderer who proclaimed innocence to be set free

A former Glendora High School football star who spent 27 years behind bars for a murder he insists he did not commit will likely soon walk free after a judge on Friday ordered his release on bail.
After the order was announced, Frank O'Connell, who sat in the same courtroom where a judge convicted and sentenced him to life in prison in 1985, turned toward his relatives in the audience, his lips trembling while members of his family sobbed with relief.

I find it fascinating that the paper chose to phrase the headline the way they did- In light of information that he may actually be innocent, they've still described him as a "convicted murderer".... not sure how I would have phrased the headline but I certainly would have avoided the word "murderer".

Man to be released on bail after spending 27 years behind bars.

That is a hard one to re-phrase without omitting the word murder. It could be done with some thought. I think the just put the word "murder" to sell papers etc.
