I've read in a previous thread that your posts are there forever. No matter if you are banned etc. They will remain.

Once a post is made, it's there. It is a very rare occurance that staff will go in and delete it.

I think that some of the moderators, etc., MIGHT be convinced to delete a post if it reveals information that might place someone in immediate danger, and/or be potentially life-threatening to yourself or others ....Other than that you may consider going back to the post you want deleted, and RESPOND to that particular post. Quote yourself first, and then write an addendum, post-script, etc., or even offer an opposing argument/statement to your own thoughts....

In some ways it lets you "off the hook" from your original statement(s), and in another, important way, it also allows you to argue the same point from two different and/or opposing positions. ....However, if the problem is that you've revealed personal information about yourself, there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do about it, other than go back to that, quote yourself, and either apologize or explain, or excuse yourself.

Good luck...

If that's the case then why do some posts disappear? As several of mine did (and no they weren't abusive, contained info dangerous to others or moved to other forums etc)

Perhaps they were moved?
If you can tell me what posts or what forums I can look into it and let you know why they were removed and/or moved

I PM'd a mod or something the other day concerning that problem Deb, but I never heard a word. Have you looked to see if it was still there? ...

Ok. Never mind His name has been deleted.

Below are PTO's official policies on Moving of Posts and Deleting Posts and Closing Threads.

Posts can be edited by a user within a short amount of time (60 minutes). After that, a post can only be edited by a PTO staff member with moderating powers in the forum posted in.

Regarding deleting posts - before contacting the Helpdesk and requesting this of PTO staff, please review the policy on Deleting Posts and Closing Threads below and make sure your request fits the criteria, as we will only remove posts that fit the criteria and, in most cases, will generally only agree to remove a small number of posts, which the user requesting will have to provide the direct URL (link) to all posts.

The reasons for these restrictions are outlined in the policy below.

*****

Moving of Posts:
PTO Moderators and Administrators will move threads & replies to the most appropriate forum often without notice to the member who started a thread. Please spend a little extra time making sure where you start a thread is the best place for it, and don’t rely on moderators to do this for you. Members found to blatantly post threads “wherever” may lose their posting privileges.

Deleting Posts and Closing Threads:
PTO Administration has the right to close or remove any post or thread we deem inappropriate. The decision to Close or Delete a Post/Thread is solely ours. We have a strict policy of keeping the posts in this community constructive. Posts that create an unnecessary amount of conflict and serve no further purpose may be closed at the moderator’s discretion.

Further, it is the policy of this community NOT to delete posts unless the information in a post may put someone in jeopardy. It is the member's responsibility to think of the potential consequences of the post they are about to make prior to doing so. This is the Internet and anyone in the world can read what you post on PTO - it is the member's responsibility to be careful regarding what personal/identifying/etc. information they post on PTO. Removing a post will often destroy readability of the thread by making it unreadable. Deleting the first post in a thread will cause the deletion of the entire thread. Members do not appreciate spending their time responding to posts only to have the post they make disappear, so we make it a point not to delete posts just because people change their mind after making a post. The process of removing posts from the board and reviewing threads that need post(s) deleted is also extremely time consuming for staff members and removing even a few posts takes a great deal of time and effort. For that reason also, it is the policy of this community not to delete posts except in very extreme, emergency circumstances.

Hello friends,
In this forum there is no facility to delete your post once it has been submitted unlike the others where when you are log in you get the option to delete or edit your post. So think 5 times before your posting.

Actually if you had read the previous posts you would see that you do have the opportunity to edit your posts for one hour after posting it

I've noticed I can't edit my post if someone has quoted it or posted after me no matter the time frame it has been anywhere from 2 mintes to 20 minutes. Is it always 60 minutes?

It is illegal for an internet site to bind anyone to it without the option of deletion of blogs and their account....I have reported them legally!

I recently had a post removed where I was expressing my experience with a co on the visit. I've read through the rules and policies. I don't see where I wrote anything wrote. My thread was deleted without warning or inbox notification. I did not mention any names or personal information. The only thing I wonder is, are we not allowed to discuss the actions of co's on this site?

I looked it up Sweet Tee and your post was removed for this reason.
Police / Guard / Correction Officer Bashing:
While we encourage full disclosure, investigation and the sharing of relevant information relating to abuses by Institutional staff (management, guards, jailers, CO’s,etc), blatant and unprovoked bashing of these people is not allowed. Please refrain from derogatory name calling as well. Further, it is a violation of PTO membership to go to any forum or site (ETC) where Correctional Officers are known to congregate and incite problems that may follow you back to the PTO website. If it is found that any member of PTO has gone to another website and created a problem, that then follows them back to our community, that member will be banned immediately.
